Library Director

Montclair, New Jersey. Engage and enrich the Montclair (NJ) community as the next Director of the Montclair Public Library (http://www.montclairlibrary.org/). The Board of Trustees seeks candidates who want to expand opportunities for Montclair’s 38,000+ residents. The Library, through its early literacy efforts, the Open Book Open Mind 2015 conversation series, and its partnership with the Adult School of Montclair, focuses on lifelong learning. In addition, the Library supports its citizens through outreach efforts such as the BookBike (funded through a crowdsourcing campaign), the Book a Librarian service, and hotspot loaning program. Neatly 68% of Montclair residents carry a Montclair Library card and check out 440,000 items annually and attend 1,600 programs—and the committed staff of 36 FTE served more than 375,000 visitors last year.  With an annual budget of $3.9 million and financial support from the Montclair Public Library Foundation and Montclair Library Friends, the Montclair Public Library continues to provide stellar programs and services inside and outside its four walls at its two locations. The new Montclair Public Library Director, through relationship building and responsiveness to the community, will work effectively with community leaders, lead successful fundraising efforts and be an active, vital member of the Montclair community. Responsibilities. The Library Director, under the supervision of the Board of Trustees, manages and directs the operations of the Library. Specific responsibilities include: understanding and aligning the organizational culture developing and recognizing staff talents; successful design and implementation of library programs and services; managing the Library’s public relations and marketing program; working strategically with senior management team; planning, justifying and executing the Library’s budget; supporting the Library Foundation as a Foundation Board Member; developing entrepreneurial activities; working closely with the Township of Montclair and the Board of Education; actively engaging and partnering with other community agencies and organizations; and being active in local, state, and national professional activities. Minimum qualifications are a Master’s degree in Library and Information Science, five years of managerial experience, and possession of or ability to qualify for the professional librarian’s certificate issued by the New Jersey Department of Education. High priority qualifications include: skill and success in working, developing and hiring personnel and building successful teams; knowledge of best practices in library technologies; experience developing and administering budgets; strong oral and written communication skills; customer focus and excellent public relations skills; the ability to build trust and effective internal and external partnerships; facilitating change; leading through strategic planning and goal setting. Prior success in reporting to a governing board, successful fundraising experience, and working with local officials are highly desirable. Temporary Children's Librarian

Wallingford Public Library has a temporary opportunity for a dynamic part-time Children's Librarian. This appointment will begin on August 15th, 2016 and continue until December. Library service to children and their families is a priority at the Wallingford Public Library. Our Children's Room provides children and caregivers with a quality collection of materials, expert help locating materials for both recreational and informational needs, and programs to encourage a love of reading, learning, and exploring the world around them.This is a 16 hour per week position, with additional Saturday hours once a month. The ideal candidate is creative, flexible, and has the ability to multi-task. They should also have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, knowledge of children's literature, and enthusiasm for working with children of all ages and their caregivers. In addition to providing excellent customer service at our Information Desk, this person may conduct one story time program per week for children ages 3-5. Community Services Librarian - Russell Library, Middletown. Salary/Hours: This is a 40 hour per week full time position under the collective bargaining agreement between the Town of Old Saybrook and Local 818 of Council #4 (AFSCME). Annual salary for this position under the current union contract is in the range of $50,090 to $57,097 dependent on experience. Library Development Coordinator - Mystic & Noank Library seeks a Library Development Coordinator responsible for fundraising and publicity, $20/hr. The Development Coordinator of Mystic & Noank Library is a part-time position, regularly 15 hours a week, but up to 25 hours a week on a flexible schedule, totaling less than 20 hours per week annually. The Development Coordinator is responsible for the fund-raising efforts on behalf of the Library and reports to the Library Director and also works closely with the Board of Trustees and the Development Committee and attends scheduled meetings to review ongoing activities. Executive Director - Hotchkiss Library of Sharon, an historic institution, offers an array of programs and activities for adults and children, in addition to maintaining a sizeable collection of books and other materials. Open seven days a week, the library is the cultural center of the community. To fund its operations, the library relies heavily on patron support. The executive director is responsible for overseeing programming as well as fundraising to sustain the library and fulfill its mission. Responsibilities also include supervision of its physical plant and all aspects of its operations. He/She will serve as the face of the library to internal and external constituencies, including the board, staff, patrons, local officials and the public. The executive director is responsible for sound business planning as well as the preparation of and adherence to budgets. Working with the staff, the executive director will direct marketing and public relations efforts to increase support for the library and reach the largest possible audiences. He/She keeps abreast of developments in technology and implements those that are relevant to the library. Supervisor - Harry Bennett and Weed Hollander Branches, Stamford. Classification Range: 7. Salary Range: $64,769 – 82,975. The Ferguson Library offers a challenging and rewarding work environment in two of our branches for a community minded librarian with supervisory experience. The Harry Bennett Branch, a bustling facility across from Turn of River Middle School, is one of the busiest library branches in Connecticut, with an active programming component. It is located in a 24,000 sq. ft. building that was constructed in 2000. The Weed Memorial and Hollander Branch, located in the close-knit neighborhood of Springdale, is housed in a 19th century farm house that was renovated in 2006. Both branches have an active and involved patron community. The successful candidate will be responsible for supervising the daily activities, services and programs at both of these locations, and will schedule, train, develop and evaluate staff. The position also involves planning and coordinating programs and services, including the introduction of new technologies. Library Aide II - Canton Public Library. The Town of Canton seeks applications for the position of Library Aide II at the Reference Desk of the Canton Public Library. This position is 20 hours per week and pays $16.20 per hour, plus prorated leave time. Applicants must be available to work evenings and weekends. The Library Aide II provides technical and clerical assistance to library staff and the public. The successful candidate will perform a variety of duties, including but not limited to assisting with adult reference and reader’s advisory guidance, providing interlibrary loan, maintaining statistical reports, creating promotional brochures and program flyers, updating the website, and performing some technical services work. Brief Description of Duties: Directs overall library operation providing mission, education, and quality of life support to base personnel, their families and retirees. Knowledge of the policies, procedures, systems, and interrelationships of the library, the library’s databases, data sources, and the customers served. Knowledge of marketing and publicity techniques and of the interests and needs of customers and organizations served to promote library use. Knowledge of established procurement rules and regulations and internal organizational acquisition policies. Familiarity with publishers’ and suppliers’ methods of operation. Knowledge of on-line database searching and research techniques and capabilities of post-processing to meet user requirements. Experience supervising the work of library employees. Library Assistant - Booth & Dimock Memorial Library in Coventry has an immediate opening for an energetic, creative Library Assistant to work part-time (20 hours per week) in Teen Services. Primary responsibilities will include conducting and planning programs, maintaining online resources, social networking and publicity. Other duties include assisting all patrons with reference, hours at the circulation desk and computer maintenance.
