Adult/Teen Services Librarian – Edith Wheeler Memorial Library

Adult/Teen Services Librarian (Full Time) – The Edith Wheeler Memorial Library (Monroe) is looking for an energetic, forward thinking Adult/ Teen Services Librarian with a strong understanding of current public library services and an enthusiasm for seeking out and developing creative new services.  The ideal candidate will be outgoing and willing to work collaboratively with members of our friendly community.
     Under the supervision of the Library Director, this person will be organizing and directing the activities of our Adult and Teen Services team.  Duties include researching and bringing technologies on board for the library’s new makerspace;  planning and marketing of adult and teen programs; maintaining the library’s web page and social media presence; selecting and acquiring materials; maintaining the collection; and overseeing an active reference department. 
     Master’s Degree in Library Science or Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA-accredited institution required.  Comfortable working and teaching in an experiential learning environment.  Minimum of 3 years experience working with adult and/or teen library services, resources, and online searching preferred.  Some supervisory experience necessary.  Starting salary: $53K, 35 hour/week, union position with full benefits.  All applications must be submitted online at http://monroect.org/Human-Resources.  Deadline Tuesday, August 14th or until position is filled.

Digital Services Librarian - West Haven Library

Digital Services Librarian - The West Haven Library is seeking a Digital Services Librarian with strong technology skills to join our professional team. Duties include but are not limited to; copy and original cataloging in RDA and AACR2, oversee acquisitions of library materials, and manage website and social media for the library system. Also serve on multiple committees representing the library, manage maintenance of library computers, and perform reference and circulation duties as needed. Must be a team player. Required qualifications are an MLS from an accredited institution, minimum of 1-2 years of library experience, an attention to detail, and strong troubleshooting skills. Experience working with Sierra a plus. This is a full-time union position at 37.5 hours a week, with one Saturday a month in rotation and full benefits. Librarian I, Information & Adult Services, FT - Ferguson Library






CLASSIFICATION RANGE:   5         SALARY RANGE:  $ 55,310-67,888

Founded in 1877, and incorporated as an association library in 1880, the Ferguson Library is the public library in Stamford. With major annual funding from the City, it operates a Main Library downtown, three neighborhood branches, and a bookmobile.  The Library is governed by a board of trustees, who are guided by a newly written strategic plan that serves as a blueprint for providing excellent service.

The Information & Adult Services Librarian joins a team of forward-thinking professionals.  In addition to providing traditional reference services, the successful candidate will be integral to the further development of the Library’s Makerspace and the design and delivery of maker programs.  Experience related to these activities is an important qualification.  Other responsibilities include developing and maintaining assigned areas of the collection, assisting patrons with technology and accessing the Library’s digital resources, teaching computer skills in classes and tutorials, providing reader’s advisory services, preparing bibliographies and pathfinders, updating and adding content to the Library’s website as needed, and performing other duties as required to provide library services to an adult population.

DUTIES INCLUDE:

1.      Provide reference and readers advisory services.
2.      Provide assistance to patrons in locating and using library materials and equipment including databases, digital media and mobile devices.
3.      Assist with the development of a Makerspace, including expanding the range of available technologies and software; train staff and patrons in their use.
4.      Develop programs, and manage the scheduling and use of resources in the Makerspace.
5.      Maintain and update designated webpage(s).
6.      Develop and maintain designated subject areas in the collection, related services and materials.
7.      Compile bibliographies and other pathfinders to increase discoverability of collections and services.
8.      Assist with general adult programming for public and staff, including community outreach.
9.      Other duties as required by Coordinator of Information & Adult Services.


QUALIFICATIONS
 

1.      Masters Degree in Library Science or Information Science.
2.      Knowledge of and experience with development and maintenance of collections.
3.      Knowledge of and experience with electronic resources and digital media.
4.      Knowledge of and experience with website maintenance; knowledge of Drupal a plus.
5.      Knowledge of and experience with Makerspace programs, resources, and equipment.
6.      Demonstrated commitment to public service in an urban public library environment.
7.      Tact and skill in working with public and staff.
8.      Ability to work individually and as a team member.
9.      Availability for evening and weekend work.

Mentor –YOUmedia (part-time) - Hartford Public Library

Seeking creative and flexible individual for Mentor in our new digital learning center for teens.  Responsibilities: This position will assist with the implementation and use of various technologies and is also responsible for trouble-shooting technological difficulties and the set-up for YOUmedia events.  

Minimum requirements: Bachelor’s degree in Instructional Technology, Web or Graphic Design, Music Production, or a related discipline is preferred. Min. 1 year of exp. Teaching digital media, or 1 year of professional career experience in a related technological field is required. Experience working with teens is required, including a demonstrated sensitivity and commitment to the needs of teens.
Experience with new technologies and social media required. Applicant must be technologically fluent with Macs, PCs and digital media creation software.

Reference Librarian - University of Hartford Libraries



 Job Code: B0657. Employment Class Code: A1; Salary Grade: G; FLSA Classification: Exempt. Reports to Head, Reference and Public Services. Work Hours: 40 hours (minimum) May work evenings and/or rotating weekends. Position Summary: Assumes responsibility for providing complete and thorough information literacy and bibliographic instruction to library patrons in conjunction with University faculty to ensure quality customer service as well as the best use of traditional and electronic library resources. Performs all duties in full support of the University’s brand, understanding that the positive and effective execution of these duties are instrumental to the University of Hartford’s core business – the education of students. Key Responsibilities: Provides knowledgeable, relevant and accurate assistance to students and other library patrons, making efficient and expedient use of traditional and electronic library resources. Assists both, the traditional and online education student, staff, and faculty with research inquiries. Acts as an academic liaison to faculty in designated subject areas for courses taught on campus and online. Oversees collection development and web page content in those designated areas through all appropriate library resources. Plans, develops, presents and evaluates instructional, bibliographic and information literacy seminars on library resources to on campus and online students, faculty and staff. Provides recommendations for title development of the reference collection. Maintains reference and subject collections, including new book area, through book selection, organizing inventory and purging updated and damaged materials. Maintains collection and reference usage statistics. Develops reports for the head of Reference and Public Services and the Director of Libraries as necessary and appropriate. Assists with all functions of the Circulation Unit including desk coverage, direction, shelving and library opening and closing procedures. Assists with training and scheduling students in Reference Services. Assists the Director of the President’s College (PC) and the Business Manager with program functions including, but not limited to, scheduling lecturers, working with a variety of PC committees and reserving library spaces. Maintains awareness of trends and advances in the field through attendance at meetings or seminars and through regular examination of the literature in the field. Participates in approved professional organizations. Serves on internal and external committees as necessary and appropriate. Performs other related duties as assigned.
