Community Services Librarian - Russell Library, Middletown. Russell Library seeks an individual to produce library adult cultural programs and to compose, coordinate and disseminate publicity on all library services and programs. Russell Library is dedicated to serving a diverse community by offering services and programs to suit all ages, abilities and backgrounds. This was recognized in 2009 when the Connecticut Library Association presented the Library with the Excellence in Public Library Services Award. The Community Services Librarian plays a critical role in the development and implementation of effective, innovative programming for, and outreach to, the Middletown community. The Community Services Librarian receives supervision from the Library Assistant Director, provides task supervision to assigned helpers, and assists library staff, patrons and visitors. Sample duties include, but are not limited to: Plans and carries out adult cultural programs including concerts and other arts performances. Works closely with organizations and institutions to raise awareness of library services and programs, including coordinating tours, events and presentations. Writes, edits, and disseminates all publicity on library programs. Assists in updating information on the library web site and social media, including review of copy prepared by other departments. Prepares a library events publication. Provides assistance to the Friends of the Library with projects. Works closely with other departments on community services, programs, and publicity. Assists community groups that present programs at the library. Writes grant applications for adult cultural programs. Works with volunteers. Participates in collection development. Prepares statistical reports and annual budget for programs. Examines professional publications and other sources to keep current on trends and practices. Participates in library organizations and attends relevant workshops and conferences. May provide direct services to Library patrons at the Information Desk, when needed. General qualifications: Master’s degree in Library Science from an accredited program. 1-2 years experience in library work, and success in conducting outreach for a library or non-profit. Working knowledge of music genres, ability to evaluate and negotiate with performers . Ability to lift and move light to medium weights (equipment, books, displays, office equipment), and to see and hear clearly (correctable to within normal limits). Available to work nights or weekends when necessary, and to drive off-site for programs or events. Knowledge of the Middletown community preferred.
