GENERAL DUTIES: Performs essential clerical duties for
library technical services, interlibrary loans, statistical reports and
correspondence. Performs bookkeeping functions of the library. Performs
all circulation desk duties using computerized system as needed.
HOURS: Monday, Wednesday, Friday 12:45 - 8:15 pm;
Tuesday, Thursday 9:45am-5:15pm. May include occasional Saturday hours.
SALARY: Starting at $16.64 per hour
QUALIFICATIONS: Two years clerical experience in
library functions or three years general clerical experience. Some
college preferred. Good knowledge of bookkeeping, accounting and
clerical skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office or similar software
programs. Ability to learn and use automated circulation system, ILL
functions, online catalogs, and other equipment as necessary. Ability to
learn and follow library circulation policies and procedures. Ability
to follow oral and written instructions. Good oral and written
communication skills. Ability to comprehend patrons' needs quickly and
accurately. Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships
with staff and public. Strong reference/reader’s advisory skills. Work
independently under general supervision.

Collect, compile, track and maintain usage statistics on the effectiveness of library databases, resources and services through interaction with numerous vendor software programs and websites and other University departments; monitor collection usage against national trends and prepare customized reports from gathered data utilizing spreadsheets and presentation software. Identify and compile useful online resource links; add and maintain links in library discovery tools. Create graphic slides that publicize materials for the library kiosk; access to kiosk administration software to load and update slides. Prepare and maintain library user guides on relevant topics. Meet and guide students through the thesis submission process; includes communicating the Library’s thesis-related requirements and procedures. Submit electronic thesis copies to an outside vendor for digitization; review for completeness, package and send paper copies to bindery. Document and report statistical counts of journal and microform collections. Repair books and journals. Train and supervise student workers on book repair procedures. Prepare bindery shipments of books, journals, etc. Sort and distribute Technical Services mail; serve as mail distribution backup for Library and Information Technology staff within ABL building. Assistant Librarian & Archivist - The Wadsworth Atheneum
Assistant Librarian & Archivist - Full-time position. The Wadsworth Atheneum,
the oldest continually operating public art museum in the United
States, was founded by Daniel Wadsworth in 1842. Today the collection
exceeds 50,000 works of art, spanning more than 5,000 years. The
Wadsworth Atheneum has always been a resource for the local community,
as we work to welcome new and existing audiences.
Reporting to the Head of Library and Archives, the Assistant Librarian and Archivist performs a wide-range of tasks associated with the physical and intellectual organization of the Auerbach Art Library and Museum Archives. The Assistant Librarian and Archivist provides reference and research assistance to the museum’s staff, docents, external patrons and community partners. The primary responsibilities include cataloging, organizing, processing and preserving library and historical resources, preparing guides and finding aides, reference services, and participation in all aspects of library and archival work.
The regular work schedule for this position is Tuesday through Saturday.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education and Experience: Bachelor’s Degree in art history, history or studio art; and Master of Library Science from an ALA-accredited institution with coursework or concentration in archives management. Reporting to the Head of Library and Archives, the Assistant Librarian and Archivist performs a wide-range of tasks associated with the physical and intellectual organization of the Auerbach Art Library and Museum Archives. Seeks and leverages library partnerships in collaborative technology initiatives with Wesleyan Information Technology, the Center for Pedagogical Initiatives and other applicable departments on campus and beyond. Serves as the lead contact for technical service & digital vendors ; reviews and negotiates contracts for eResource packages. Serves on University committees and works with faculty, staff, and student groups as appropriate. Maintains current knowledge of trends and changes in the library profession, represents the Library and contributes to the library profession through participation in the work of professional organizations.
Minimum Qualifications: Masters in Library and/or Information Science from an ALA accredited institution, or equivalent. 5 years of increasingly responsible professional library management experience in an academic setting. Experience with acquisitions, cataloging, collection development, digital initiatives, and/or systems. Demonstrated leadership, planning, and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple concurrent tasks with major impact on critical operations of the organization. Experience with licenses, contracts, and vendors. Strong analytical skills and budgeting experience. Ability to work creatively, collaboratively and effectively and to play a leadership role in promoting teamwork, diversity, equality and inclusiveness within the Wesleyan Libraries and the campus.
Preferred Qualifications: Familiarity with trends in eResource acquisitions, management and licensing. Experience with library technology planning. Experience with library digital projects and policies. A subject Masters degree.
