Library Assistants (2) - Southbury Public Library

Two Library Assistant Job Openings at Southbury Public Library:
     Library Assistant, Adult Department (20 hrs) - Minimum wage. Schedule is Tuesday 4:30-9:00pm, Wednesday 10:00-5:30pm, Thursday 10:30am - 4:30pm and Friday 2:00-5:30pm. Included is ½ hr. unpaid break on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
     Library Assistant, Children and Adult Departments - Minimum wage. Week One (11.5 hrs): Monday 9:30-1:00 in Adult Dept. and 2:30 - 5:30 in Children's Dept., and Sunday 11:30-5pm in Children's Department with 1/2 hr. unpaid lunch. Week Two (18.5 hrs): Above hours plus Saturday (alternate with another staff member) 8:30am-4:00pm in Children's Department with 1/2 hr. unpaid lunch.
     Library assistants are responsible for all circulation procedures and shelving of library materials. Candidates must have excellent communication skills, good computer skills and clerical experience. Must be able to work effectively and be courteous with all ages. Library Aide (Children’s Services)

Fairfield Public Library. Fairfield Public Library is offering a great opportunity for someone who is just starting out in Children’s Services and wants to have a great work experience in the Children’s Services profession.  We are looking for a person who will provide excellent customer service to the children and their caretakers who visit our library. We’d also like you, under the supervision of your supervisor, to assist with the development of productive relationships with schools, daycare centers and other learning environments. We know you are familiar with iPADS and coding and everything else that’s new and we want your help in using new technologies in creative and innovative ways. As a children’s library aide we expect that you will know about the latest and greatest fiction and non-fiction materials and be able to connect children with some great choices. As one of the happy faces in the children’s department you will be spending considerable time on our children’s services reference desk answering questions and finding information for our youngest patrons as well as their caregivers and teachers.  A favorite part of children’s services is developing and offering great programs to all ages of kids.  Under the direction of the children’s supervisor you will have the opportunity to explore and implement your new ideas.  As with all public library positions you will be wearing many different hats throughout your day, anywhere from brainstorming a STEM program to ordering supplies for your department. Children's Librarian

Full-Time Teen Librarian -

Library Assistant Director/Head of Youth Services

Library Technical Assistant Children’s Department

The E.C. Scranton Memorial Library, Madison, CT, has a part-time opening for a Library Technical Assistant to work in the Children’s Department.  Excellent customer service, computer, and communication skills are required.  Public library experience is helpful. Candidate must be able to work a flexible schedule (20-25 hours per week) including evening and weekend hours.   This position is responsible for performing the full range of children’s circulation desk functions while presenting a courteous and welcoming impression of the Library.  Duties include circulating, renewing and reserving materials using the automated circulation system, checking in materials, registering new patrons, updating patron records, collecting fees for overdue and damaged/lost items, registering patrons for programs and helping parents and children locate library materials.  Qualified applicants must possess a high school diploma, enjoy working with children of all ages, be able to work efficiently and effectively while juggling multiple priorities, and be comfortable working as part of a team.  Starting salary is $13.00 per hour and includes paid vacation, sick time and retirement benefits. Temporary Children's Librarian

Wallingford Public Library has a temporary opportunity for a dynamic part-time Children's Librarian. This appointment will begin on August 15th, 2016 and continue until December. Librarian III

The White Plains Public Library (NY) has an opening for a Librarian III to serve as manager of youth services. One of the busiest public libraries in New York State, the White Plains Public Library values excellent customer service and innovation in library services.  This position, which is available due to retirement, oversees the Trove, our library for children and families, as well as the Edge, our library and digital media lab for teens. Summer Library Intern

Mystic & Noank Library The Mystic & Noank Library is seeking a recent tech-savvy MLS graduate or MLS student with excellent customer service skills to work 19 hours a week  for eleven weeks (preferably starting the week of June 6).  Basic weekly schedule will be:  Mondays & Tuesdays, 10 to 1, Wednesdays, 1 to 9, and Thursdays, 10 to 5. Interest in Children’s Programming is required. After two weeks of training, the Intern will be expected to lead a weekly preschool storytime and assist our Head of Youth Services in managing the Summer Reading Program and a variety of Children’s and Teen Programs. Intern will also be asked to assist at the Circulation Desk and to provide Readers Advisory and Reference Services, as needed, to patrons of all ages. Interest in assisting in the launch of a Minecraft program for Tweens is preferred. Intern will be assigned other special projects throughout the summer. Position pays $15 per hour. Children’s Librarian

The Old Lyme Phoebe Griffin Noyes Library is looking for a dynamic, independent, technologically proficient individual for a full-time professional position to manage Children’s Services. Equally important attributes for the job are enthusiasm and motivation for working with children and promoting the love of reading through library services. The Children’s Librarian is responsible for age’s birth to 12 and works closely with the Young Adult Librarian to coordinate services. Primary responsibilities include collection development, programming, marketing of services to the public, readers’ advisory, providing homework help and/or afterschool activities. In addition, performing outreach through community agencies and schools as well as collaboration with local and regional partners is expected. School visits, providing assistance with public computers and public access catalog, and overseeing the summer reading program are also required. Additional responsibilities include assistance in the Circulation Department and Adult Information Services is also needed. Qualifications: A Master's Degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited institution (or equivalent experience) preferably with a concentration in children’s services is required. Minimum of one year professional experience in children’s services preferred. MLS students who have completed a minimum of four courses including reference and children’s literature are encouraged to apply. The position requires knowledge of children’s literature and reading interests and the ability to relate to children and adults. This person will have excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills as well as understanding of room/behavior management; proficiency with MS Office, knowledge of graphic design, website software, social media and digital resources, and general knowledge of library automated systems. Children's Librarian

This position is also responsible for coordinating and overseeing our eNavigator program that provides both in-house and outreach instruction in the use of our online databases, downloadable e-book and audiobook collections, and electronic devices such as tablets, e-readers and other personal digital devices. Other duties include assisting library patrons with reference and reader’s advisory questions and collection development. Qualified candidates must have an MLS from  an ALA-accredited institution, a high comfort level using and instructing others in the use of current technology and various digital devices, familiarity with current trends in library services and programs for adults, excellent customer service skills, knowledge of print and electronic resources, strong written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to work across library divisions. Public library experience and a working knowledge of the Sierra integrated library system along with basic public relations and marketing experience a plus. Recent graduates are encouraged to apply. Kidspace Library Clerk/PT

Windsor Public Library. The Windsor Public Library is seeking a knowledgeable, tech-savvy part-time library clerk with a strong commitment to serving children and their caregivers to join our Kidspaceteam. Responsibilities include reference, reader’s advisory and computer assistance at the busy Kidspace desk; shelving and shelf-reading of materials and additional projects as needed. Our ideal candidate will be enthusiastic, passionate about literacy, team-spirited, motivated, and organized; communicate effectively orally and in writing with diverse customers and coworkers; and be able to work in a fast paced, customer service environment with patience, flexibility and attention to detail.
