Executive Director - The Public Library of New London

Executive Director - The Public Library of New London, is seeking a community-oriented, innovative and dynamic executive director to oversee all aspects of the library, including library operations, fiscal management, personnel management and facility management.      New London has a population of 26,984, an AENGLC rank of 164/169 and is designated a distressed municipality. But change is in the air. The transition to an all-magnet school district is creating a culture of learning through partnerships. The library, as an important community partner, received a 20% increase in the budget for FY 2016 and small but steady increases every year since.      Responsibilities. The CEO, reporting to the Board of Trustees, oversees a nationally recognized library system. This position provides overall strategic and operational leadership with full responsibility for, but not limited to, the following areas: personnel and fiscal management; marketing and communications; fundraising and development; emergent technologies; facilities; and external partnership development through engagement with key stakeholder groups. Executive Director - Hotchkiss Library of Sharon. The executive director of the Hotchkiss Library of Sharon CT, one of the oldest libraries in CT, will provide the vision, leadership and management of the library and is responsible for overseeing the programming, operations, and fundraising that will sustain the library’s growth, quality, and organizational mission. This person will serve as the face of the library to internal and external constituencies, including the library’s board, staff, donors/members, town-elected officials, and the public-at-large. The executive director will oversee revenue generation and will supervise the library’s operations. It is expected the executive director will embrace and champion all aspects of the library (lending library, cultural programs, children’s programs, and physical assets such as the building and property). The executive director is responsible for sound business planning and adherence to the financial planning process and the budget. As the chief representative, spokesperson and ambassador of the library, the executive director works to reinforce the position of the library as a pre-eminent library and cultural organization. Working with the staff, the executive director will direct and expand the library’s marketing, public relations and branding efforts in order to better define and reflect the library’s core mission and attract the largest possible audiences. Director of Development - Mystic Noank Library

Director of Development - Mystic Noank Library. The Mystic & Noank Library seeks a self-directed, creative, responsible and positive team player with a commitment to ensure the financial well-being of our beloved and highly regarded Mystic Noank Library now celebrating its 125th Anniversary. This position reports directly to the Executive Director and provides monthly development reporting to the Board of Trustees. This is a weekly (35 hour) fundraising position with high visibility in the Mystic community. A high degree of flexibility is desired as work flow often fluctuates.
     In addition to creating, implementing and meeting the Library’s strategic objectives and development goals, the best candidate will be able to demonstrate knowledge and experience in the following areas:
     Development (90% time): Manage and grow our Annual Fund, fundraising efforts, planned giving and endowment programs and coordination of the calendar of donor communications. Identify grant opportunities and submit grant proposals. Prepare ongoing grant reporting. Cultivate, retain and communicate with existing and prospective donors and key stakeholders. Maintain donor database software, as well as process online gifts, Square reader, stock gifts and corporate matching gifts; reconciliation with Bookkeeper as necessary. Manage Development Expense Budget. Produce and present development activity reports for monthly Trustee and Staff meetings. Write Development section of the quarterly Bookends print newsletter. Remain current on ideas and strategies related to non-profit/library fundraising. Participate in regional outreach including participating in the Stonington Non-Profits, the Downtown Mystic Merchants, the Greater Mystic Chamber of Commerce, and other local events in the Groton and Stonington communities.
     Marketing (10%): Organize and attend library major events. Oversee and direct public profile of the Library development and marketing efforts through print and social media.
     Essential Skills: Successful candidate must be a reliable, self-motivated team player with an engaging attitude and commitment to excellent customer service. Effective and professional writing and verbal abilities with strong interpersonal skills are essential. Ability to comfortably interact with Staff, Trustees, Friends, donors and community members a requirement. Discretion and tact when engaging with the Library’s loyal and vocal advocates. This position requires proficient communication and organizational skills, along with the ability to meet deadlines, multitask and manage changing priorities. Evening and weekend hours often required of staff for popular community events.
     Experience: Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 5 years of experience in fundraising and/or grant writing preferably in a non-profit environment. Proficient in computer skills. Experience with social media platforms and web-design preferred. A familiarity with the greater Groton/Mystic/Stonington area is desirable. More critical is a willingness to learn quickly, jump in readily and commit to effectively administering the Library’s development program.

Director of Advancement - New Haven Free Public Library Foundation

Director of Advancement - New Haven Free Public Library Foundation. This position oversees the operations of the New Haven Free Public Library Foundation, the development and fund-raising arm of the New Haven Free Public Library system. Working in consultation with the Executive Director and Foundation Board of Directors, this position is responsible for setting and meeting fundraising targets, planning and executing development projects and campaigns, expanding giving capacity and building a culture of philanthropy within the library system.
      Work spans all functional areas of development and advancement: individual and institutional giving, grant writing, data management and analysis, event planning, donor relations, board development and marketing / communications. A successful candidate will have a broad range of experience with fundraising and nonprofit administration; analytic and creative thinking and communication skills; a track record of success; and a passion for supporting the important work of public libraries.
      Responsibilities include: Set fundraising strategy, annual calendar and budget, and develop an action plan to raise money in support of the New Haven Free Public Library’s mission. Manage the annual fundraising campaign: solicitation, donor recognition and acknowledgement, data maintenance and analysis, grant and proposal writing. Plan one, annual large-scale speical event and smaller gatherings, celebrations, workshops and discussions throughout the year. Execute fundraising efforts for the Stetson Branch Library capital campaign: prepare solicitations and materials, assist co-chairs with planning and committee management, record and track giving, manage campaign events, website and social media. Supervise all day-to-day Foundation operations with assistance from part-time bookkeeper and clerical staff. Support the Board of Directors and prepare regular meetings. Assist Executive Director and library staff with strategic priorities and projects.
     Qualifications: BA (required), advanced degree or relevant certifications preferred. Demonstrated effectiveness in working with a nonprofit board. Demonstrated success in developing and delivering donor revenue goals and fundraising benchmarks in a cost-effective way. Demonstrated excellence in organizational, managerial, and communication skills. Knowledge of Donor Perfect (or similar fundraising database), Quickbooks, website management and social media platforms preferred.
     Terms of Work and Benefits: This is a full-time salaried position (37.5 hours a week) open effective immediately. 12-month renewable contract. Library Director

Library Director

Guilford Smith Memorial Library. The Board of Trustees of the Guilford Smith Memorial Library in South Windham is seeking an open-minded, flexible, and creative Library Director.  This is a small community library with a Children's Librarian and a Teen Librarian. The director should be open to ideas and suggestions and work well with the Friends of the Library, Trustees, and elected officials. The director should be friendly, energetic, enthusiastic, dedicated, self-motivated, organized, reliable, and attentive to detail.  The director is expected to assist with fundraising opportunities and apply for grants. Experience with basic troubleshooting and maintenance of computer technologies is a plus. Responsibilities include overseeing library programs for families, children and teens, as well as the introduction of current and emerging digital technologies, updating website, social media and community calendars, and identifying and responding to the needs of the community. This is a part-time position. Library System Director



Town of Trumbull Description: Responsible for leading a system of two libraries – the Main and one Branch amounting to over 38,000 sq. ft., 147,000 collection items; open 64 hours a week (Oct. to May), 40 staff members, and providing service for over 300,000 visitors each year. Is the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Trumbull Library.  Assists the Board in its governance function of the Library System.  Provides the direction and leadership so the Library System can carry out the mission and vision of the Library and all the service goals and objectives of the Strategic Plan. Supports operations and administration of the Board by advising and informing Board members, drafting policies and recommending policies for Board action. Identifies and arranges for training sessions and documents for Board members and is the intermediary between Board and Staff.  This position is evaluated by the Board of Directors. Examples of Duties STRATEGIC PLANNING: In partnership with the Library Board of Directors, studies and makes plans to continuously improve the services of the Library System to meet the present and future community needs more effectively. Keeps well informed of developing trends and issues in the library and information science field. Attends regular meetings at national, regional and local levels of professional librarians to ensure s(he) remains knowledgeable about the changing realities of public libraries. FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT: Prepares $1 million + Annual Budget for approval by the Board and presents and defends the budget to the First Selectman, Board of Finance and Finance Committee of the Town Council. Maintains financial control to ensure library operations conform to the budget. COMMUNITY AND PUBLIC RELATIONS: Directs the public relations program to promote and publicize the Library System in the community. Submits weekly media releases to local and regional media. Regularly attends meetings of Town and community organizations. Serves as Library systems principal spokesperson and answers questions from the media, the general public and other organizations. Assures the organization and its mission, programs, products and services are consistently presented in a positive image to the public. Develops public relations vehicles, including Annual Report of Library System, speeches and is the principal advocate in discussions with national, state and local library authorities. FACILITIES MANAGEMENT: Manages two facilities as community centers for the Town in four different rooms: Community rooms at the Main and Branch Library, the Merwin Room and the Kiwanis Conference Room. Identifies need for capital building projects for the library system. Submits a capital project budget to the Town. Liaises with community partners to seek out private funding for capital needs. Works with Board and Assistant Library System Director on large building projects. Identifies annual grounds needs (e.g., external signage, plantings, sidewalk repairs, parking lot issues). HUMAN RESOURCES MANAGEMENT: Directs and participates in personal actions such as hiring, termination, assignments, and evaluation within the guidelines of the Town's labor relations. Recruits, selects and trains new personnel.  Civil Service office assists with this process by placing some of the ads for new positions, administering appropriate tests and rating candidates according to test results and providing orientation materials to new employees. With assistance from Assistant Director and Associate Director, creates and executes Staff Training Development Plan. Coordinates the continuing training and development of 40+ staff members. Prepares annual evaluations of the performance of Division Heads and other employees. Has the authority to discipline and dismiss employees in accord with contractual agreements and Town guidelines. INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY DEVELOPMENT AND MANAGEMENT: With the Assistant Library System Director and Associate Director, continuously evaluates current technological applications and develop strategy for use of future technologies throughout the Library System. Updates the Technology Strategy for Library System with Assistant Director and Associate Director. Ensures adequate training opportunities and vital funding for staff to use IT effectively for public service. Maintains awareness of emerging technologies and develop vision for their effective use in Library System. FUNDRAISING: Oversees fundraising planning and implementation. Identifies resource requirements, such as, collection materials, program sponsorships, technological needs and facility improvements. Liaises with community contacts to build partnerships for funding projects. Researches grant opportunities throughout private and public sectors. Establishes strategies and vehicles to approach potential business, organizational and individual donors. Submits request for funding proposals. Manages the administration of fundraising records and documentation. Library Development Coordinator - Mystic & Noank Library

Library Development Coordinator - Mystic & Noank Library seeks a Library Development Coordinator responsible for fundraising and publicity, $20/hr. Executive Director - Hotchkiss Library of Sharon, an historic institution, offers an array of programs and activities for adults and children, in addition to maintaining a sizeable collection of books and other materials. Open seven days a week, the library is the cultural center of the community. To fund its operations, the library relies heavily on patron support. The executive director is responsible for overseeing programming as well as fundraising to sustain the library and fulfill its mission. Responsibilities also include supervision of its physical plant and all aspects of its operations.
