Information Technology Specialist - The Farmington Libraries

Information Technology Specialist, Part-Time, 28 hours/week - The Farmington Libraries are seeking a qualified individual to provide direction and collaborate with colleagues in researching and implementing new digital services designed to meet the needs of our forward-thinking community.  
The Information Technology Specialist (ITS) will be responsible for identifying and evaluating new technologies as they emerge, and designing original programming for one-one-one and small group trainings for staff and patrons. The ITS will assist in the development and day-to-day management of library-wide information systems including public and staff computers, as well as equipment and software in our Maker Space, and experiential and media production lab. 
     The successful candidate will have experience with various computer coding languages, creating instructional and informational materials for print and online publication, a passion for sharing knowledge with others, and a commitment to serving the community.
     Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field required. Master’s degree preferred, but not required. Customer service experience required.

Senior Library Assistant: Technology & Programming, FT – Bethel Public Library: The primary responsibilities of this position are to work under the direct supervision of the Adult Services Librarian on the Technology needs of the library, and act as the primary point person for maintaining the hardware and software for the Library’s automated system, the LAN, servers, and other equipment.  This position will be responsible for technology programming for both staff and the public in all departments under the direction of the department heads. The Senior Library Assistant will also provide services to the public at all service desks throughout the library; assists technical services, and requires evening and weekend hours as part of the regular work schedule.  The minimum qualifications for this position are a bachelor’s degree with some formal computer training, including experience with Word Press and HTML.  Experience with additional programming languages and microcontrollers a plus. Duties include but are not limited to; copy and original cataloging in RDA and AACR2, oversee acquisitions of library materials, and manage website and social media for the library system. Part-Time Public Services Assistant - Russell Library seeks an adaptable, tech-savvy, user experience-oriented Public Services Assistant to help Middletown residents navigate the resources available at their local public library. While most of their time will be spent on the PCA/computer desk, the Public Services Assistant will also deliver circulation and reference services and may be called upon to fill in at the Borrowing, Information, and/or Youth desks.

     This is a part-time, non-union position. Hours vary, usually 8 to 15 hours per week, with a pay rate of $19.93 per hour.

Director of Library Services & Educational Technology Facilitator - Forman School, Litchfield. Job Summary: The Director of Library Services & Educational Technology Facilitator reports directly to the dean of faculty. S/he is responsible for all aspects of the library programs and facilities, supervises library staff, and seeks to ensure that the library's academic and technology resources complement, enhance, and extend the school's educational program. S/he will collaborate closely with the director of studies, the director of information technology, and the faculty.
     Essential Duties and Responsibilities: The librarian/director of library and information services will: Ensure that the library's academic and technical resources advance the school's educational program. Collaborate with classroom teachers in the curriculum design process. Develop policies and programming that will establish standards for and definitions of information literacy and bolster support for library services that contribute to an information-literate student body. Collaborate with academic departments/discipline-specific coordinators on specific needs and growth opportunities. Foster an environment of creativity and innovation, and a love of reading and learning. Research and evaluate new and emerging information technologies. Prepare and manage the library budget. Develop, acquire, and maintain a collection of resources appropriate to the curriculum, the students, the instructional strategies of the school's faculty, and the school's mission. In coordination with the technology department, evaluate and purchase technical equipment. Maintain an attractive, dynamic, current, and well-stocked library conducive to reading, studying, and research. Select, process, and make readily available a variety of resources, including print, digital, and multimedia. Maintain a circulation system that ensures the prompt return of materials and their ready availability to other borrowers. Provide bibliographic and reference services for teachers and students. Provide instruction for students in the use of library resources. Promote the ethical use of information. Empower students to be critical thinkers, enthusiastic readers, and knowledgeable researchers. Instill a love of reading and learning in students and ensure their equitable access to information. Participate in the recruitment, hiring, training, and supervision of other library professionals and volunteers. Maintain regular contact with stakeholders through school publications and online media. Act as an advocate of the library, share expertise at faculty meetings, serve on academic committees, and take an active role in accreditation processes. Network with local librarians, maintain active memberships in professional associations, and promote the school in the wider community. Facilitate personal growth through professional development opportunities. Perform other duties as assigned by the head of school.
     Other Duties: Include any other duties that may be required of the position, such as coaching responsibilities, dorm duties, advising, or other specific duties.      Common Qualification Requirements: Bachelor's degree; Master's degree in Library Science, Information Studies, or a similar field strongly preferred. Additional degree in Education a plus. 5+ years of experience in library program management. Demonstrated experience in a supervisory role a plus. Demonstrated success collaborating with faculty in all disciplines to enable/enhance student learning. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Exceptional organizational skills. Emerging Technology Librarian - Hotchkiss School

Emerging Technology Librarian - Edsel Ford Memorial Library, The Hotchkiss School, Lakeville, CT.
     POSITION SUMMARY: The Emerging Technology Librarian (ETL) leads the Ford Library’s efforts to identify, implement, and integrate new technologies to further teaching and learning at Hotchkiss. In addition to being responsible for equipping and developing programming for the iSpace, the ETL bears primary responsibility for technology planning in the Library, working in concert with ITS, the Library Director, and the Assistant Directors to determine near and long term needs. They will play a key role in planning and executing the Tri-State Mini Maker Faire and will serve as the Library’s primary support person for the Summer Portals program. The ETL also supports the work of the Assistant Directors and Access Services Librarian in assessing and optimizing the Library’s digital platforms.

     ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Serve as the Library’s expert on Educational Technology. Provide instruction to Faculty, Staff, and Students in best practices in technology use. Manage the Library makerspace (the iSpace) and develop related programming. Evaluate emerging technology trends and products and report findings regularly to key stakeholders in the academic departments and administration. Identify opportunities for library technology to be integrated into courses and programs. Collaborate with ITS, Library staff, and others as needed to resolve emergent and ongoing library technology problems. Coordinate with the Access Services Librarian on ongoing usability assessment of electronic resources and Websites. Develop an annual review schedule of library technology to identify upgrades, outdated materials, and new opportunities to support students and faculty. Manage and work with vendors to enhance technology tools. Produce training materials and instructional coaching to integrate technology in the classroom. Follow professional trends and industry standards; benchmark services against other comparable institutions. Collaborate with Summer Portals staff to support classroom- and library-based learning. Staff Library Services Desk and other service points as assigned, to assist library users with questions and requests. Work with patrons to develop their independent research skills. Contribute to the overall maintenance of the library collection. Other projects and tasks as assigned by the Library Director.
     QUALIFICATIONS: A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college, preferably in computer science or a related field; a Master’s degree in Library Science or other relevant graduate degree strongly preferred. Previous experience in an academic, school, or public library. A positive attitude and professional demeanor: friendly, diplomatic, adept at customer service. Excellent communication, organizational, and writing skills. An ability to work independently as well as in a team structure. Attention to detail and precision. Proficiency in the use of computers and office productivity software. Ability to work effectively with colleagues, faculty, and academically motivated adolescent patrons, in a demanding and rapidly changing environment. Preferred: experience in Website design, data science, social media outreach, and/or familiarity with ISTE Technology Facilitation Standards.
     PHYSICAL CONDITIONS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. Repetitive (keyboard) motion. Occasional bending, stooping, and reaching. Periodically carrying boxes (up to 50 lbs). Regularly pushes/navigates fully laden book trucks. Regularly stands for long periods. Close vision, the ability to adjust focus, and comfort using a computer monitor for long periods of time. Noise level in the work environment is usually quiet. Hours include late afternoon, evening, and weekend shifts

Reference Librarian and Digital Resources Specialist - Full-Time Position. Post University is currently accepting applications for the dual role of half time Reference Librarian and half time Digital Resources Specialist.
     JOB SUMMARY: The Reference Librarian role will possess general knowledge of library processes and services, including the following; a strong customer service commitment by responding to the needs of the Post University community; competencies with technologies including personal computer applications and integrated library systems; ability to work with minimal supervision to initiate and complete projects; work both independently and as a team member; effectively communicate in both oral and written form. Main responsibilities will include providing research assistance, copy cataloging, and maintaining Post University’s faculty reserves collection. Schedule includes nights and weekend hours.
     The Digital Resource Specialist role will provide research, support, and technology expertise for digital projects, assist faculty and staff with finding, evaluating, and using digital content, prepare educational materials regarding digital content, including copyright and intellectual property rights, collect analytics (when and where available) on ECM requests, implementation, troubleshooting, efficacy, material retention, etc., help with technical aspects of digital integration, be available for appointments with faculty and staff, assist with the integration of digital content into University platforms and publications, as needed, prepare research surrounding digital learning opportunities, and interact and collaborate with a variety of departments across campus.
     KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Matriculation into a Master’s program in library science, or library and information science from an American Library Association accredited college required; Master's degree or higher in one of those programs preferred. Two years’ experience in an academic library preferred. Information literacy instruction experience preferred. Reference and/or technical experience required. Librarian IV - (M-5265, Not Tested), Assignment in Information Technology. City of New Haven. SALARY (Hiring Range): $68,891–$79,851 annualized. HOURS: 37.50 hours per week, various shifts.
      NATURE OF WORK: This is professional administration of a major element of the library system. Work involves, depending upon the job within the class, the responsibility for adult services, children’s services, technical services or information technology. Work is performed with considerable latitude for the exercises of administrative judgment and is reviewed by the City Librarian or other staff member as designated through conferences and observation of results. This Librarian IV position will focus on delivery of Information Technology to staff and library patrons; manages Active Directory and Office 365 with hybrid managed services for WAN and wireless networks. Therefore, experience managing networks, VOIP, and emerging technologies is emphasized.
      MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: A Master’s Degree in Library Science from a graduate program accredited by the American Library Association. Five to ten years experience in professional library work, including five years of experience in an administrative or supervisory capacity; or the necessary knowledge, abilities and skills as stated in the job description, including but not limited to: Extensive knowledge of the principles and techniques of library; organization and management; Considerable knowledge of library personnel administration; Considerable knowledge of library and city fiscal and budgetary; procedures; Experience managing data and voice telecommunications, networks and information technology; Extensive knowledge of the principles and practices of library service.
      Employment is contingent upon the successful completion of: (1) a background check, (2) a physical examination, including drug screening, and (3) a 90-day probationary period.
