Adult Librarian - Canterbury Public Library

Adult Librarian - Canterbury Public Library is seeking a part-time (23 hours a week, $16.56/hr) adult and reference librarian. Monday-Thursday with occasional Saturdays. One week of vacation will be given after one year of employment.
     Responsibilities: Provide reference assistance, including providing patrons with assistance using the computers. Staffing the circulation desk and providing circulation duties. Overseeing adult and teen volunteers. Cataloging new and donated materials using RDA. Repairing damaged books. Facilitating book discussions and the adult summer reading program.

Insure all students and staff receive training on information technology. Model for and train library media specialists and media aides in meeting the curricular needs of classroom teachers. Model for and train media aides in meeting the technological needs of all school staff. Oversee the selection, utilization and maintenance of library, curriculum resources and instructional technology. Models instructional strategies an assists staff members in the integration of information literacy strategies and technology in the curriculum. Collaborates with staff to identify and implement effective instructional and technological resources to support all content areas. Work with principals, other supervisors and IT to provide professional learning on the integration of instructional technology. Deliver new teacher training on district software, technology use and policies. Educate administrators, staff, students and parents on the district Acceptable Use Policy. Coordinate the district technology committee (MTAG). Work with IT to manage Destiny and other databases. Oversee the development of system-wide budgets for library media and technology.

NATURE OF WORK: This is supervisory work directing and participating in custodial care and general maintenance of public library building s and grounds. Work involves responsibility for the maintenance and repair of building systems, such as HVAC, Fire Detection, and Emergency Communications and maintenance of electrical systems. Plans, supervises, assigns and reviews the work of custodial personnel, and performs custodial and maintenance work. Work is performed under the general direction of a higher level supervisor, and reviewed by conferences, observation, and examination of results. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major course work in Mechanical Engineering. Possession of Connecticut State HVAC license required or Journeyman in relevant trade, and 5-7 years’ experience in commercial building maintenance and cleaning, including responsibility for mechanical equipment repair and maintenance, and one year of supervisory experience; and the necessary knowledge, abilities and skills as stated in the job description, including but not limited to: Considerable knowledge of and experience with commercial air handling units, gas boilers, pneumatic controls, electrical and plumbing building systems. Considerable knowledge of commercial buildings and grounds cleaning and maintenance. Ability to read blueprints, and to read, understand and follow the directions in the operating manuals for all the building systems in the library buildings. Demonstrated ability to plan, assign, train, and supervise the work of a small group of cleaning and maintenance employees. Ability to lift and carry objects of up to 60 pounds. Ability to climb ladders. Ability to communicate effectively with library staff and public in a clear and courteous manner. Ability to work outside in poor weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain and snow. Must have valid Connecticut driver’s license. Employment is contingent upon the successful completion of: (1) a background check, (2) a physical examination, including drug screening, and (3) a 90-day probationary period. This position is included in a collective bargaining agreement with Local 3144, American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees. As a condition of continued employment, a person appointed to a Local 3144 bargaining unit position will be required to obtain union membership at the completion of 90 working days.
