Manager of Adult Learning Services - Hartford Public Library

Manager of Adult Learning Services - Hartford Public Library. Administers the system-wide development and implementation of a technology-rich teaching and learning environment for all aspects of formal and informal public education for adults 17 and older. Works with community and municipal stakeholders to strategically align initiatives, coordinate utilization of grant resources, and streamline and standardize procedures toward the successful transition of adults into the workforce and post-secondary education. The Manager of Adult Education will report to the Chief Adult Learning Officer. Salary grade 13 range: $42,320 - $63,480. Requirements: Master’s Degree in Education, Library Science, or related field. 5 years of experience in an administrative and managerial capacity, preferably in a nonprofit environment. Experience managing federal grants. Responsibilities and Skills: Manage daily operations of the Adult Learning Program. Lead a diverse team of employees; responsible for supervising staff and contractors as well as coordinating public-facing services on a day to day basis. Mange a portfolio of select projects related to Adult Learning; conduct research and analysis; identify opportunities for streamlining procedures and improving operations processes and maintain project budgets and activity reports. Implement projects and oversee execution and roll out of project tasks including: requirement gathering, scoping, creation and management of project plans and schedules; monitoring deliverables and milestones; identifying options to overcome project obstacles; ensure timely grant reporting. Broaden the scope of strategic partnerships through networking, focused outreach and participation in stakeholder convening. Prospect new funding and resourcing opportunities; as part of a team, write grants to support program development; work with internal and external stakeholders to strategically align initiatives; coordinate utilization of grant resources; and, liaise with evaluators for reporting and assessment. Maintains awareness of best practices and emerging technologies; coordinates with IT Department to ensure adequate technology infrastructure to meet goals of technology-enhanced teaching and learning environment. Formulates and provides professional development to support library staff and instructors in the delivery of e-Learning resources and devices. Collaborates closely with adult learner staff to ensure that students continue to make progress toward their employment and education goals by identifying and documenting student goals, performance measures, and referrals. Plans and organizes internal and external meetings and workshops; developing agendas, capturing meeting minutes and follow-up actions items. Develops presentations, writes blog posts, reports, white papers and other publications for promotion or dissemination of project activities. Participates in relevant policy and planning committees and meetings; represents the adult learning interests of the Library in regional and state meetings, and serves as liaison to other key adult education providers within the state and region. Education/Community Outreach Manager


Hartford Public Library seeks a full time Hartford History Center (HHC) Education/ Community Outreach Manager SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITY: The HHC Education/Community Outreach Manager works as part of a small team of professional staff to implement an innovative vision for the Hartford History Center, Hartford Public Library’s museum and archive, that will deepen public understanding of Hartford’s rich multicultural history through the delivery of innovative programs and services. This role develops, delivers and evaluates public programming and services, including exhibits, for an inter-generational audience to advance Hartford Public Library’s vision and mission. Additionally, s/he will work with learners of all ages to re-examine the past in light of the present in order to create new pathways for robust dialogue and community building.   Essential Functions: Establishes and directs education and outreach programs, website and social media outlets related to the Library’s Hartford History Center; Plans, directs and supervises employees; recruits, recommends hires, trains, disciplines staff; prepares work assignments and schedules. Conducts grant writing and execution of grants as project manager. Undertakes research related to Hartford history that leads to program development, exhibitions, digital content and the creation of supporting material to support common core standards that integrates the historical collections housed in the Hartford History Center; Promotes community use of the Hartford History Center by speaking to community groups and through outreach to other community and educational contacts. Responsible for maintenance of special collection workflow; assists in the cataloguing of books, the processing of archival materials; and, in the development of finding aids and metadata for online resources; Serves as a part of a cross-departmental team that creates and executes mission driven events, programs and exhibits through the integration of historical collection materials; Answers reference questions and works the public service desk in the Hartford History Center; Reads in a variety of fields and genres and develops and practices readers’ advisory skills to promote reading for every age and reading level is preferred. Assesses customers’ requirements and abilities, and appropriately identifies materials, databases and Web sites to match their needs. Develops and delivers reports and presentations to senior HPL management, and other groups as needed. Prepares daily, monthly, and annual reports as required. Ensures safe conditions for staff, public, and building operation. Takes appropriate action in building emergencies. Keeps informed of current trends, improved programs and processes to better meet the needs of the community. Provides welcoming customer service to all customers. Positively reflects Hartford Public Library’s mission, vision, and values to staff and the public. Other Functions: Participates in the overall administration of Hartford Public Library through committee or taskforce assignments. Participates in community activities and maintains contacts with professional organizations in order to better provide services and to meet the objectives of the library. Thorough knowledge of and background in various types of informational materials in a variety of formats including electronic. Solid project management skills are required. Strong commitment to working within a team environment is required. Solid written and verbal communication, listening, organization and priority setting skills. Bilingual, ability to communicate in Spanish strongly preferred. Strong public relations skills. Solid working knowledge of all MS Office suite software is required. Ability to design, develop, and proofread written and visual materials. Ability to provide welcoming and effective customer service. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with individuals and groups, both professional and non-professional, co-workers, management personnel, and the public.  Ability to work independently. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and juggle multiple priorities.Ability to think quickly, assess a situation and make a sound decision. Ability to work a varied schedule inclusive of evenings and weekends.  Ability to create clear and concise reports, and to deliver them verbally to a wide variety of audiences. Director of Library Services

Hartford Seminary Job Description: Title: Director of Library Services Classification: V Department: Library Title of Supervisor: Dean Major Purpose: The Director of Library Services is responsible for the overall administration and operation of the Hartford Seminary Library, reporting to the Dean, and working closely with the Library Staff, the Faculty and the Educational Support and Library Committee in facilitating policy decisions. Primary Functions: supervision of staff in the day-to-day operation of Library services, including Reference, Circulation control, Cataloguing, Inter-Library Loan, acquisitions, upkeep of the Online Public Access Catalog, stack maintenance, and reading rooms; coordination with Distance Education and Information Technology faculty and staff in working with students and patrons, informing and advising the Dean and President as well as the Educational Support and Library Committee of developments in Library technology and practice, including the digital humanities, to improve this Library’s service and quality; support of faculty and students in their scholarly research, providing assistance in developing courses enriched with digital electronic resources in support of online, blended, and face-to-face Seminary offerings; making sure the library is a friendly, comfortable, and helpful place for all patrons, creation of a digital repository to house scholarly research and presentations of the Seminary community; preparation of an annual Library budget and monitoring of expenditures and funds throughout the fiscal year; management and coordination of the collection development process, including acquisitions; preparation of reports on the Library, including responses to special requests for information in questionnaires, statistical reports, archival or biographical searches, etc.; participate in the Academic Council with a voice; representing the Library in local, state, and regional professional and planning activities. Education and Experience: Masters in Library Science or equivalent is required; master’s degree or higher in theology is preferred.
