Director of Library Services

Hartford Seminary Job Description: Title: Director of Library Services Classification: V Department: Library Title of Supervisor: Dean Major Purpose: The Director of Library Services is responsible for the overall administration and operation of the Hartford Seminary Library, reporting to the Dean, and working closely with the Library Staff, the Faculty and the Educational Support and Library Committee in facilitating policy decisions. Primary Functions: supervision of staff in the day-to-day operation of Library services, including Reference, Circulation control, Cataloguing, Inter-Library Loan, acquisitions, upkeep of the Online Public Access Catalog, stack maintenance, and reading rooms; coordination with Distance Education and Information Technology faculty and staff in working with students and patrons, informing and advising the Dean and President as well as the Educational Support and Library Committee of developments in Library technology and practice, including the digital humanities, to improve this Library’s service and quality; support of faculty and students in their scholarly research, providing assistance in developing courses enriched with digital electronic resources in support of online, blended, and face-to-face Seminary offerings; making sure the library is a friendly, comfortable, and helpful place for all patrons, creation of a digital repository to house scholarly research and presentations of the Seminary community; preparation of an annual Library budget and monitoring of expenditures and funds throughout the fiscal year; management and coordination of the collection development process, including acquisitions; preparation of reports on the Library, including responses to special requests for information in questionnaires, statistical reports, archival or biographical searches, etc.; participate in the Academic Council with a voice; representing the Library in local, state, and regional professional and planning activities. Education and Experience: Masters in Library Science or equivalent is required; master’s degree or higher in theology is preferred.
