     OVERVIEW: The Milford Public Schools seeks a highly qualified and passionate educator to provide creative leadership for district-wide library media services and the use and integration of instructional technology.
     GOAL: To provide leadership in library media and technology integration with the goal of having each school’s library media center reflect 21st century learning, and K-12 teachers integrating technology into their curriculum and teaching in a way that expands and deepens student learning.
     ESSENTIAL TASKS OF THE POSITION: (Illustrative, not inclusive) Oversees library media centers in 14 schools giving primary attention to supporting literacy and research. Provides leadership in the development and implementation of instructional technology. Mentors and supports staff in their use of technology in their instruction. Models the integration of technology into administrative, instructional and assessment practices. Exhibits excellent human relations skills, maintaining an open and cooperative relationship with students, colleagues and parents. Oversees the selection and implementation of online learning programs.
     PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: (Illustrative, not inclusive) Work with library media specialists and staff in the identification and implementation of information competencies. Work with instructional supervisors and a team of classroom teachers in developing shared common research experiences for all students. Insure all students and staff receive training on information technology. Model for and train library media specialists and media aides in meeting the curricular needs of classroom teachers. Model for and train media aides in meeting the technological needs of all school staff. Oversee the selection, utilization and maintenance of library, curriculum resources and instructional technology. Models instructional strategies an assists staff members in the integration of information literacy strategies and technology in the curriculum. Collaborates with staff to identify and implement effective instructional and technological resources to support all content areas. Work with principals, other supervisors and IT to provide professional learning on the integration of instructional technology. Deliver new teacher training on district software, technology use and policies. Educate administrators, staff, students and parents on the district Acceptable Use Policy. Coordinate the district technology committee (MTAG). Work with IT to manage Destiny and other databases. Oversee the development of system-wide budgets for library media and technology.
     PAY GRADE: Supervisor. UNION: MASA. Salary and benefits per MASA contract. CT Certification (092) required.

POSITION SUMMARY: The Library Media Specialist provides direct instruction, support, training and consultation to teachers, administrators and other school staff in all aspects of the library media sciences. In addition, the Library Media Specialist serves as an integral member of the educational community to ensure that the library/ media resources meet the needs of the students served. This position has an educational technology background emphasis.
     EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS: Certification according to CT State Department of Education regulations as a Library Media Specialist is required. Experience with special needs populations and school age students are preferred.

Participates is school-wide trainings including, but not limited to, trauma-informed care, behavior management and crisis de-escalation. Works collaboratively with all staff to maintain a healthy physical environment, positive strengths-based atmosphere within the school milieu, and safety and well-being of the children and staff. Attends relevant team and school-wide meetings. Participates in and promotes quality improvement and outcome activities. Adheres to confidentiality guidelines. Reports suspicion of child abuse/neglect as mandated. Assists with the orientation of new staff around the IT systems utilized in the school programs. Continues to develop knowledge and understanding about the history, traditions, values, family systems, and artistic expression of groups served as well as uses appropriate methodological approaches, skills, and techniques that reflect an understanding of culture.

     Position Summary: The Library Media Specialist (LMS) is integral to the learning culture of the entire school. As the curator of the learning commons, the LMS provides leadership and serves as an essential and equal partner in the instructional and learning process throughout the school.
     Responsibilities: Follows the scope and sequence of the instructional program as defined and approved by the Norwalk Board of Education. Provide training for students and staff on software and hardware. Develop guides and instructional materials for the learning commons. Seek frequent user feedback to ensure continuous improvement. Select print and digital resources in collaboration with building staff members and in coordination with the curriculum department. Supervise and train learning commons staff as well as parent and student volunteers. Promote a building-wide culture of reading. Develop and maintain a professional learning library and create professional learning opportunities. Develop a budget to support the priorities of the learning commons as they align with the school’s improvement goals.
     Knowledge/Skills: Secondary teaching experience preferred. Experience with team teaching in a multicultural environment. Ability to communicate ideas and directives clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing. Effective, active listening skills. Ability to work effectively with others. Organizational and problem solving skills.
     Qualifications: Active School Library Media Specialist (062) CDE Certification required. Master’s Degree in Education (focus on Instructional Technology and/or Library Science) preferred. Strong background as an information specialist, teacher and instructional partner, and technology integrator. Experience with applications and software related to digital content delivery and instructional design. Knowledge of/experience with International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme preferred. Fluency in Spanish is an asset. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent and/or Norwalk Board of Education may find appropriate.
