     NATURE OF WORK: This is professional administration of a major element of the library system. Work involves, depending upon the job within the class, the responsibility for adult services, children’s services, technical services or information technology. Work is performed with considerable latitude for the exercises of administrative judgment and is reviewed by the City Librarian or other staff member as designated through conferences and observation of results. This Librarian IV position will focus on technical services and information technology, overseeing computer networks, network administration, and network installation.      MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: A Master’s Degree in Library Science from a graduate program accredited by the American Library Association. Five to ten years experience in professional library work, including five years of experience in an administrative or supervisory capacity; or the necessary knowledge, abilities and skills as stated in the job description, including but not limited to: Extensive knowledge of the principles and techniques of library; organization and management; Considerable knowledge of library personnel administration; Considerable knowledge of library and city fiscal and budgetary; procedures; Experience managing data and voice telecommunications, networks and information technology; Extensive knowledge of the principles and practices of library service. Cover the Health Sciences Library Circulation Desk including utilizing pertinent functions of the Innovative Interfaces system find materials, checking in/out books, shelving some books, etc. Responsible for closing the health science library and all related duties. Coordinate with Health Science Library staff to have a working knowledge of library offerings and to maintain the order and integrity of the periodical stacks. Library Director

Guilford Smith Memorial Library. The Board of Trustees of the Guilford Smith Memorial Library in South Windham is seeking an open-minded, flexible, and creative Library Director.  This is a small community library with a Children's Librarian and a Teen Librarian. The director should be open to ideas and suggestions and work well with the Friends of the Library, Trustees, and elected officials. The director should be friendly, energetic, enthusiastic, dedicated, self-motivated, organized, reliable, and attentive to detail.  The director is expected to assist with fundraising opportunities and apply for grants. Experience with basic troubleshooting and maintenance of computer technologies is a plus. Children’s Librarian

Town of Woodbury The Children’s Librarian is responsible for the development, administration, and coordination of all services for children from birth to age 12.  Performs managerial duties in the children’s department related to staff, library operations, including circulation, reference and computer functions, programs and special activities.  Works closely with school librarians and community groups to assess, develop and expand children’s services.  Bachelor’s degree required. Master of Library Science (MLS) from an ALA-accredited college preferred. Archives Assistant

Choate Rosemary Hall School The Archives Assistant works under the direction of the Archivist to insure that resources in the archives collection are appropriately labeled, indexed, stored, and preserved. Assists the Archivist to publicize and promote the history of Choate Rosemary Hall. This is a part-time, 20 hours per week, academic year, non-benefits eligible position. Duties and responsibilities: 1. Promotes School History: Create actual and virtual displays using the appropriate software. Assists the Archivist with providing reference services to the Choate community and independent researchers. 2. Updates Archives' databases: Maintain the art inventory database and the binder of photographs of the school's art; Maintain the textile inventory database, including labeling, preserving, and indexing; Create and maintain an inventory/database of artifacts. 3. Organizes archival materials: Index new and past issues of The News, The Alumni Bulletin, and other serial publications. Maintain the picture file, including indexing, filing, labeling, and preservation activities. Process new acquisitions, including the search for redundant documents, applying the classification system, labeling, and preserving appropriately. 4. Undertake other archival tasks/projects as assigned. Requirements: Background in library work or records management required. Archives experience preferred. Significant experience with computer software on both PC and Mac platforms - including but not limited to: Word, Excel, Publisher, Outlook, digital photography, scanning, photo editing, and Adobe Photoshop. Must have strong written and verbal communication skills. Must have the ability to handle details with a very high degree of accuracy. Must have the ability to work independently, be reliable, and maintain the confidentiality of school records. Information Technology Director

Great Neck Library This is a contract, confidential position that reports to the Executive Director of the Great Neck Library. Responsibilities: Report to the Executive Director and assists in the day-to-day technology operations of the Library. Participate in any renovation project, including attending construction and Building Advisory Committee meetings as needed. Assist in planning and procedures for instituting any new technology in the Main Library and Branches. Manages Technical Services, Computer Services and Website Services . Makes recommendations for technology improvements to the Executive Director. Manage the library catalog (Innovative Interface), LILink, Website, Financial software and other programs the library uses to insure they are functioning and up to date with version changes that meet the needs of the organization. Work closely and collaboratively with technical service staff, integrated library system vendor, application vendors and other partners to further the discovery, delivery, maintenance and preservation of Library and other data. Coordinate the installation, testing, customization, and ongoing configuration of Library systems software and related upgrades. Maintain the various online processes for integration of Library Services Platform data and external systems such as LILink, OCLC, WorldCat, etc. Will insure compliance with authorization policies and license agreements. Skills Required: Bachelor's degree in computer information science or closely related field or the equivalent practical experience. Five years of professional experience in all aspects of information technology. MLS or MLIS degree from an ALA accredited institution required. Must have 3-5 years of management or supervisory experience. This individual will bring strong analytical, technical and troubleshooting skills in support of a complex array of library applications. Has strong commitment to system integrity, support and continuity of operations, actively coordinating and communicating with vendors and others in pursuit of problem resolution. Skills Preferred:  Demonstrated experience administering an Integrated Library System within a large scale library setting. Demonstrated knowledge of discovery tools and metadata practices supporting discovery, specifically in a library context. Knowledge of bibliographic record structure such as MARC, XML markup, etc. Technical knowledge of library services and supporting data (including Acquisitions, Circulation, Cataloging and Electronic Resource management) Experience integrating third-party applications into library systems. Ability to work independently and in a collaborative team environment. Experience with personnel issues preferred. Evergreen System Specialist

Bibliomation, Inc. (Waterbury, CT.) is Connecticut’s largest library consortium consisting of over 60 member libraries. Bibliomation libraries share materials and manage resources using the Evergreen open source integrated library system.  Bibliomation is seeking an Evergreen Systems Specialist to join the Evergreen support team. The Evergreen Systems Specialist will: report to the Evergreen Systems Manager, working closely to manage the Evergreen system which is operated using both Linux and Windows within a multi-server environment; assist in troubleshooting software issues by performing log analysis and error debugging; assist in technical tasks associated with backup and recovery activities; monitor system performance and adjusts operating systems and applications to avoid performance issues; install and test new Evergreen software patches and releases; make recommendations or modify existing system configurations based on member library needs; perform systems integration testing of various operating systems, databases, utilities and hardware upgrades . Required: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Computer/ Information Science or related field; 1-3 years work experience; proficiency with Linux and Windows operating systems; strong relational database experience, including SQL scripting; familiarity with HTML, CSS, JavaScript; familiarity with virtualization tools; knowledge  and /or experience with networking and Powershell; strong oral and written communication skills; ability to collaborate in a team environment; and strong interest in actively participating in the Evergreen open source community. Computer Lab Assistant

The West Hartford Library needs a tech-savvy individual to staff our busy computer lab at our main library.  There are eighteen Windows 7 computers, three printers and an all-in-one scanning station in the lab.  This position involves helping patrons to log onto computers using the library’s print/time management system (Pharos),  do basic computer tasks and save work,  add funds for printing documents, scan and print documents.   Qualifications: Knowledge of the Microsoft Office 2013 suite and Windows 7/8, Knowledge of Firefox, Chrome and Internet Explorer, Ability to learn a print/time management system, to add money to patron’s accounts, to reprint jammed print jobs , to extend time on computers, Ability to clearly answer basic computer questions, Proficiency in basic troubleshooting for computers, printers and scanner ,  Good communication skills and a welcoming attitude are essential as this position works very closely with our patrons, High School diploma or GED; prefer some college; prefer customer service background, Some flexibility to change schedule when coverage is needed.  Beginning salary: $10.33 hourly.  Send resume and a list of days/times you are available to: Andrew Bosworth Head of Technical Services abosworth@westhartford.org

Part-Time Library Clerk

Prospect Library is seeking a part-time library clerk to work at its circulation desk for 15 hours per week. Job will require daytime hours and one night a week. Also requires rotating Saturday hours from September thru June (5.5hrs per Saturday). Position salary is $11 per hour with no benefits. The successful candidate should be able to meet the public courteously and perform a wide variety of library tasks. In Conjunction with circulation duties, clerk will work closely with the Library Director and Assistant Director/Children’s librarian to assist with the preparation of library programming for all ages; successful candidate may be required to create in-house flyers, registration forms, displays and crafts as needed.  Previous knowledge of Microsoft Office programs is required. Comfort working with social media is a plus.
