Adult/Teen Services Librarian – Edith Wheeler Memorial Library

Adult/Teen Services Librarian (Full Time) – The Edith Wheeler Memorial Library (Monroe) is looking for an energetic, forward thinking Adult/ Teen Services Librarian with a strong understanding of current public library services and an enthusiasm for seeking out and developing creative new services.  The ideal candidate will be outgoing and willing to work collaboratively with members of our friendly community.
     Under the supervision of the Library Director, this person will be organizing and directing the activities of our Adult and Teen Services team.  Duties include researching and bringing technologies on board for the library’s new makerspace;  planning and marketing of adult and teen programs; maintaining the library’s web page and social media presence; selecting and acquiring materials; maintaining the collection; and overseeing an active reference department. 
     Master’s Degree in Library Science or Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA-accredited institution required.  Comfortable working and teaching in an experiential learning environment.  Minimum of 3 years experience working with adult and/or teen library services, resources, and online searching preferred.  Some supervisory experience necessary.  Starting salary: $53K, 35 hour/week, union position with full benefits.  All applications must be submitted online at http://monroect.org/Human-Resources.  Deadline Tuesday, August 14th or until position is filled.

Adult Services Librarian – Simsbury Public Library

Adult Services Librarian (Full-time) – Simsbury Public Library. We’re looking for an outgoing, enthusiastic, creative, and self-directed librarian, who is team-oriented to join our Adult Services Department. Our ideal candidate will be highly organized, collaborative, a curious learner, display a keen attention to detail and a strong commitment to public service. A sense of humor is also invaluable. Responsibilities include program planning and facilitation, outreach, community collaboration, technology instruction, assisting with marketing and social media, as well as reference duties. Our Adult Services Librarian will also play an important role in our Makerspace, the Innovators’ Workshop, including offering training sessions and classes on the 3D printer, circuit paper cutter, sewing machines, and offering troubleshooting assistance on this equipment as part of reference duties. Adult Services / Programming Librarian - The West Haven Library seeks a tech-savvy, customer-oriented person for a full-time (37.5 hours) adult services/programming librarian position in our busy reference department. Must be able to work evenings and some Saturdays. Reporting to the Adult Services Librarian, the duties include but are not limited to; adult programming, collection development for the Reference department, assisting patrons with computer support along with one-on-one training, and providing monthly reporting to the Director. This person must be a team player, have attention to detail, and strong troubleshooting skills. Required qualifications are an MLS from an accredited institution with at least one year of library experience, or a minimum of 3-6 years of library experience with intention of receiving an MLS within the next two years. Familiarity with Sierra and a consortium library a plus. Salary will be commensurate with experience. This is a union position. Youth Services Librarian - Pearle L. Crawford Memorial Library

Youth Services Librarian - Pearle L. Crawford Memorial Library. The Town of Dudley (Massachusetts) is accepting applications for the position of Youth Services Librarian. Position is full-time, 40 hours per week and includes some evening and rotating Saturday hours. The Youth Services Librarian is responsible for all aspects of services to children, their caregivers, tweens and teens. Must be very comfortable working with patrons from newborn through 18. Must be a friendly and approachable team player with a solid commitment to public service. Must possess excellent oral and written communication skills.
     Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Plans, organizes, and maintains the library’s children and young adult collections. Provides reader’s advisory service for youth and families. Assists youth in the use of library and its resources. Assists parents/caregivers in selection of appropriate youth material. Coordinates activities and programs with local schools and organizations. Checks materials in and out of the library, renews materials, places books on hold, notifies patrons the arrival of held books and collects overdue fines. Plans, organizes, and publicizes all youth programs including but not limited to story times, crafts, summer reading, special events, reading clubs, school and community outreach. Participates in the formulation of policy and develops procedures related to youth services. Interprets policy and explains policy and procedure to the public. Manages youth services budget. Compiles, reviews, and interprets statistical data regarding use of youth services and prepares regular management reports for review by Director. Trains and supervises youth volunteers. Assists front desk circulation staff when necessary. Acts on behalf of Director in his/her absence. Other related duties as assigned.
     Education, Experience, Skills: Master’s or Bachelor’s Degree with emphasis on services to youth; Master’s Degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited program preferred. Three or more years of library experience to include supervisory experience, collection development, programming, circulation, reference and reader’s advisory services for youth. Experience working with youth from birth through age 18. Previous experience with Evergreen automated library system preferable. Must be fluent with use of Internet, social media, databases, downloadable e/audiobook services and Microsoft Office productivity software. Excellent customer service, organizational and communication skills required. Experience utilizing website content management software desirable.

     Reporting to the Head of Adult Programming and Community Engagement, the Specialist supports and implements innovative public programming for adults. The Adult Programming and Community Engagement Department works to position Darien Library as a vibrant hub of intellectual and creative activity, with a wide range of lectures, performances, hands-on workshops, town-wide events, and out-of-the-box library programs for adults.
     Responsibilities: Provide direct assistance and support to Library patrons during Library programs. Support and advise Library staff on best practices for staff-led programs; collaborate across departments. Identify opportunities for adult programs based on research into community needs and desires as well as current trends and innovations. Support the Library’s Strategic Plan through the creation and implementation of timely, thoughtful public programs for adults. Assist in building and maintaining community partnerships.      Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree, preferred. Event planning experience required; experience coordinating and developing programs for adults in libraries, museums, art institutions preferred. Skilled at working with diverse audiences. Engaged in and inspired by current events, literature, and the arts. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Comfortable with public speaking. Proficiency with technology including Outlook, Microsoft Office Suite, social media platforms. Comfortable with new technology. Ability to work evenings and weekends. Bilingual applicants preferred.
     Hours: This is a part-time position with no benefits that will primarily work evenings and weekends on a flexible schedule. Candidate must be prepared to work at least 10 hours per week, but will not exceed 29 hours per week.

     Nature of Work: This is professional library work in the supervision of a major library activity, a major branch library, or in the development and supervision of a major specialized subject area such as literacy, computers, audio-visual resources and service, and information service for businesses. Work is performed with latitude for professional judgment under the general supervision of the Director, a Librarian V or Librarian IV, and is reviewed through conferences and observation of results. This particular assignment serves as Reference and Adult Learning Manager with oversight for coordination of digital inclusion and technology training, provision of social service assistance, workforce development, strategic adult programming and other priorities of the City of New Haven, as such will be required to have knowledge and experience with computer applications in public libraries, literacy service, and business information service. Develops services and programs to support lifelong learning in collaboration with other NHFPL librarians and managers across the library system.
     Minimum Requirements: A Master's degree in Library Science and at least three to five years of experience in professional library work, including at least six months of supervisory experience; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the following knowledge, abilities, and skills, including but not limited to: Considerable knowledge in the required area of expertise such as: Considerable knowledge of the objectives of library service to the community. Ability to apply library science principles and techniques to operating and supervising problems. Ability to plan and supervise operations of a library unit. Competency in Spanish is a plus.
