Information Technology Specialist - The Farmington Libraries

Information Technology Specialist, Part-Time, 28 hours/week - The Farmington Libraries are seeking a qualified individual to provide direction and collaborate with colleagues in researching and implementing new digital services designed to meet the needs of our forward-thinking community.  
The Information Technology Specialist (ITS) will be responsible for identifying and evaluating new technologies as they emerge, and designing original programming for one-one-one and small group trainings for staff and patrons. The ITS will assist in the development and day-to-day management of library-wide information systems including public and staff computers, as well as equipment and software in our Maker Space, and experiential and media production lab. 
     The successful candidate will have experience with various computer coding languages, creating instructional and informational materials for print and online publication, a passion for sharing knowledge with others, and a commitment to serving the community.
     Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field required. Master’s degree preferred, but not required. Customer service experience required.

Adult Services Librarian – Simsbury Public Library

Adult Services Librarian (Full-time) – Simsbury Public Library. We’re looking for an outgoing, enthusiastic, creative, and self-directed librarian, who is team-oriented to join our Adult Services Department. Our ideal candidate will be highly organized, collaborative, a curious learner, display a keen attention to detail and a strong commitment to public service. A sense of humor is also invaluable. Responsibilities include program planning and facilitation, outreach, community collaboration, technology instruction, assisting with marketing and social media, as well as reference duties. Our Adult Services Librarian will also play an important role in our Makerspace, the Innovators’ Workshop, including offering training sessions and classes on the 3D printer, circuit paper cutter, sewing machines, and offering troubleshooting assistance on this equipment as part of reference duties. MakerSpace Associate - East Hartford Public Library

MakerSpace Associate - East Hartford Public Library seeks a tech-savvy individual for part-time employment (5-10 hours per week) in our new MakerSpace. Responsibilities will include tech support, programming, and instruction. The East Hartford Public Library MakerSpace features 3D printers, a Carvey, music production equipment, media conversion equipment, a green screen, a Silhouette Cameo, and more. The ideal applicant will demonstrate familiarity with some or all of these technologies. Public library experience preferred. Availability must include evenings and Saturdays. Digital Services Librarian - New Canaan Library.

     Role Purpose: To engage our community through digital services and channels. As part of the Digital Services Team: Provide IT support to the public and staff. Assist in maintaining the IT infrastructure. Develop technology workshops and classes that respond to community need and interest. Compile a broad range of Library metrics. Participate in cross-departmental projects as required.
     Responsibilities: Under the guidance of the Digital Services Manager this position is accountable for: Working with the Digital Services Team Colleagues to maintain all Library technology. Responding to Help Desk requests. Assisting in developing, organizing and providing classes and workshops. Providing Makerlab support and technical assistance. Assisting in developing and maintaining the Library’s digital presence. Collecting, analyzing and presenting a broad array of statistical data. Working 5 hours per week on the Adult Services/ Information Desk. Instructing staff and public in the use of various digital technologies. Conducting one-on-one tutorials with public and staff. Undertaking other projects and assignments as requested.
     Skills & Attributes: Strong commitment to customer service. Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects. Knowledge of emerging digital technologies. Knowledge of 3D printing and scanning. Collaborative work style. Good troubleshooting skills. Strong ability to convey ideas and lead informal learning programs.
     Qualifications / Experience: MLS degree (preferred but not required). Basic understanding of computer networks. Knowledge of computer databases and statistical analysis. Knowledge of Windows, MAC and Linux operating systems. Knowledge of mobile devices and tablets. Familiarity with Arduinos, RasPis and related electronics.

NATURE OF WORK: This is advanced level professional library work involving the planning and implementation of complex informational and/or technical services for the library system. The current assignment is in Community Engagement and Communications and serves as a resource across all Library public service departments in the application of interactive community engagement technologies and programs. Library Assistant – Teen Services

Wilton Library is seeking an energetic, creative individual to assist the Teen Services & Makerspace Manager by maintaining collections, assisting patrons, training and working with teens and adults in our Makerspace, creating and supporting STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) programs, and promoting our materials and services through social media. Qualifications: The successful candidate will have strong computer and technology skills, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher and social media.  Desired attributes and skills include a customer service orientation, attention to detail and the ability to work well with other team members in a creative and vibrant environment. An interest in reading and familiarizing yourself with teen literature is a must.  A science background or demonstrated aptitude for STEM programs is desirable. Bachelor’s degree preferred. Library knowledge and/or experience working with teens are a plus.   Part-time, hourly position.  Mondays from 10-5, Wednesdays 3-8 and one Sunday a month from 1-5. The candidate should have the flexibility to work additional hours for special projects and fill in for other staff as necessary.  Hourly salary ranges from $15-$17 depending upon experience. Librarian I, Information & Adult Services, FT - Ferguson Library






CLASSIFICATION RANGE:   5         SALARY RANGE:  $ 55,310-67,888

Founded in 1877, and incorporated as an association library in 1880, the Ferguson Library is the public library in Stamford. With major annual funding from the City, it operates a Main Library downtown, three neighborhood branches, and a bookmobile.  The Library is governed by a board of trustees, who are guided by a newly written strategic plan that serves as a blueprint for providing excellent service.

The Information & Adult Services Librarian joins a team of forward-thinking professionals.  In addition to providing traditional reference services, the successful candidate will be integral to the further development of the Library’s Makerspace and the design and delivery of maker programs.  Experience related to these activities is an important qualification.  Other responsibilities include developing and maintaining assigned areas of the collection, assisting patrons with technology and accessing the Library’s digital resources, teaching computer skills in classes and tutorials, providing reader’s advisory services, preparing bibliographies and pathfinders, updating and adding content to the Library’s website as needed, and performing other duties as required to provide library services to an adult population.

DUTIES INCLUDE:

1.      Provide reference and readers advisory services.
2.      Provide assistance to patrons in locating and using library materials and equipment including databases, digital media and mobile devices.
3.      Assist with the development of a Makerspace, including expanding the range of available technologies and software; train staff and patrons in their use.
4.      Develop programs, and manage the scheduling and use of resources in the Makerspace.
5.      Maintain and update designated webpage(s).
6.      Develop and maintain designated subject areas in the collection, related services and materials.
7.      Compile bibliographies and other pathfinders to increase discoverability of collections and services.
8.      Assist with general adult programming for public and staff, including community outreach.
9.      Other duties as required by Coordinator of Information & Adult Services.


QUALIFICATIONS
 

1.      Masters Degree in Library Science or Information Science.
2.      Knowledge of and experience with development and maintenance of collections.
3.      Knowledge of and experience with electronic resources and digital media.
4.      Knowledge of and experience with website maintenance; knowledge of Drupal a plus.
5.      Knowledge of and experience with Makerspace programs, resources, and equipment.
6.      Demonstrated commitment to public service in an urban public library environment.
7.      Tact and skill in working with public and staff.
8.      Ability to work individually and as a team member.
9.      Availability for evening and weekend work.
