Part-Time Public Services Assistant - Russell Library, Middletown

Part-Time Public Services Assistant - Russell Library seeks an adaptable, tech-savvy, user experience-oriented Public Services Assistant to help Middletown residents navigate the resources available at their local public library. While most of their time will be spent on the PCA/computer desk, the Public Services Assistant will also deliver circulation and reference services and may be called upon to fill in at the Borrowing, Information, and/or Youth desks.
     Duties include, but are not limited to: Staffing public service points (primarily the PCA/computer desk, but also the Borrowing, Information, and Youth desks); Helping library users to meet their technology-related needs; Showing individuals how to use devices, especially to access downloadable content (e-books, e-audiobooks, e-magazines); Assisting people in use of library equipment (copiers, printers, fax machines, microfilm readers, adaptive technologies); Using the online catalog to find titles in various formats; Referring patrons to Librarians as necessary; Handling cash payments; Fielding telephone calls; Providing directional information; Maintaining neat condition of public areas, including public service desks; Interpreting and applying library policies and procedures; Charging and discharging library materials; Registering new borrowers and computer users; Other projects as assigned.
     Exceptional customer service and digital literacy skills required. Knowledge of and experience working in public libraries desired. Strong preference will be given to candidates who have or are in the process of earning an LTA degree.
     This is a part-time, non-union position. Hours vary, usually 8 to 15 hours per week, with a pay rate of $19.93 per hour.
