Library Director - Willington Public Library

Library Director - The Willington Public Library located in Willington, Connecticut, is currently seeking a qualified Library Director to provide oversight and leadership both within the library and throughout the community. The successful candidate will be responsible for the application of library skills to a variety of technical and/or professional processes in cataloging, book and audio-visual material selection, and reference services. Records Management Consultant - Connecticut State Library. Based out of the Connecticut State Library, Office of the Public Records Administrator, the Records Management Consultant will assist the Public Records Administrator performing detail-orientated records information management work related to the implementation of an IBM Enterprise Content Management [ECM] system in conjunction with the Bureau of Enterprise Systems and Technologies [BEST] and the Connecticut State Library [CSL]. With responsibility for the overall administration and coordination of the Library’s technical and digital services, this position will play a vital role in helping us implement our vision for the future.
     Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Supervises, guides, and collaborates with 5 professional and 7 paraprofessional staff to provide excellent service to all library patrons through acquisitions, cataloging, collection development, digital initiatives, and systems. Leads the division in developing and reviewing policy and workflows to best suit the needs of the 21st century library, in keeping with the goals set forth for the university in Beyond 2020 and the library strategic plan. Consults and coordinates with the senior management team on issues that affect the library as a whole. Works with the direct reports to set departmental priorities including project management, planning, budget, professional development, data extraction, and personnel. Serves on CTW Collections Committee and represents the library in consortial efforts as appropriate. Seeks and leverages library partnerships in collaborative technology initiatives with Wesleyan Information Technology, the Center for Pedagogical Initiatives and other applicable departments on campus and beyond. Serves as the lead contact for technical service & digital vendors ; reviews and negotiates contracts for eResource packages. Serves on University committees and works with faculty, staff, and student groups as appropriate. Maintains current knowledge of trends and changes in the library profession, represents the Library and contributes to the library profession through participation in the work of professional organizations.
     Minimum Qualifications: Masters in Library and/or Information Science from an ALA accredited institution, or equivalent. 5 years of increasingly responsible professional library management experience in an academic setting. Experience with acquisitions, cataloging, collection development, digital initiatives, and/or systems. Demonstrated leadership, planning, and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple concurrent tasks with major impact on critical operations of the organization. Experience with licenses, contracts, and vendors. Strong analytical skills and budgeting experience. Ability to work creatively, collaboratively and effectively and to play a leadership role in promoting teamwork, diversity, equality and inclusiveness within the Wesleyan Libraries and the campus.
     Preferred Qualifications: Familiarity with trends in eResource acquisitions, management and licensing. Experience with library technology planning. Experience with library digital projects and policies. A subject Masters degree.

Children’s Librarian - West Haven Library

Children’s Librarian - West Haven Library seeks a full-time (37.5 hours/week) children’s librarian to join our librarian team, specializing in children ages 0-12. Duties include weekly story hours, crafts, and literacy programs; along with responsibility for collection development, acquisitions, and maintenance of the children’s materials appropriate for ages 0-12. This person will assist patrons with reader’s advisory, reference and technology questions, and assist Teen Librarian to coordinate programming amongst peers and with the school system. Library Media Specialist - McGee Middle School, Berlin Public Schools. Beginning: Aug 26, 2017. Open until filled. Job Description: The library media specialist oversees the entire operation of the middle school library media center and supervises the library paraprofessional. The library media specialist serves in a variety of roles to include the following: teacher, information specialist, and program administrator.
     As a teacher, the LMS works collaboratively with the faculty to plan, implement, and assess our 21st century standards-based curriculum. Keeps current on research and findings on teaching and learning and skilled in applying its findings to a variety of situations - particularly those that require students to access, evaluate, and use information from multiple sources to learn, think, create and apply new knowledge. Develops policies, practices, and curricula that guide students in developing the full range of information and communication abilities. Works closely with teachers to design authentic learning tasks and assessments and integrates the information and communication abilities required to meet standards. Provides professional development for school and district staff.
     As a program administrator, the LMS works collaboratively with district and school staff to define the policies of the LMC program and guides activities related to the program. Advocates for the library media program as part of the overall continuous improvement plan for the school and provides the knowledge, vision, and leadership to implement change. Manages budget, equipment, facilities, and resources. Continuously updates and weeds the library collection of materials that support teaching and learning.
     As the information specialist, the LMS provides leadership and expertise in acquiring and evaluating information resources in all curricular areas. Masters the use of sophisticated electronic resources and assists the faculty and students with implementation. Teachs students and staff strategies for locating, accessing, and evaluating information within and beyond the LMC.
     REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Proper CT teaching certification: School Library Media Specialist (062) or Librarian (048). Extensive knowledge of literary and information literature for middle school students. In-depth understanding of the social, emotional, and intellectual needs of the middle school student. Deep knowledge of educational technology and ability to integrate in all curricular areas. Strong interpersonal skills.
     PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: M.S. in Library Science and Certification as a Library Media Specialist. At least five years of experience as a School Library Media Specialist.
