     Responsibilities: Responsible for periodical subscriptions: includes check in and maintenance of periodical records in the III serials module; process periodicals for the shelf; claim and resolve subscription problems through serials vendor’s online interface; add and revise periodical holdings records in vendor databases; direct student workers on periodical inventory and weeding. Collect, compile, track and maintain usage statistics on the effectiveness of library databases, resources and services through interaction with numerous vendor software programs and websites and other University departments; monitor collection usage against national trends and prepare customized reports from gathered data utilizing spreadsheets and presentation software. Identify and compile useful online resource links; add and maintain links in library discovery tools. Create graphic slides that publicize materials for the library kiosk; access to kiosk administration software to load and update slides. Prepare and maintain library user guides on relevant topics. Meet and guide students through the thesis submission process; includes communicating the Library’s thesis-related requirements and procedures. Submit electronic thesis copies to an outside vendor for digitization; review for completeness, package and send paper copies to bindery. Document and report statistical counts of journal and microform collections. Repair books and journals. Train and supervise student workers on book repair procedures. Prepare bindery shipments of books, journals, etc. Sort and distribute Technical Services mail; serve as mail distribution backup for Library and Information Technology staff within ABL building. Other duties as assigned.
     Education Requirements: High School Diploma or GED.
     Qualifications: Proficiency with Word, Excel, PowerPoint. 1 to 3 years experience working in high traffic office setting. Attention to detail and accuracy is a must. Library experience is preferred.

Position Summary: The University of Hartford Libraries Technical Services Assistant assumes responsibility for print and electronic serial control, including but not limited to updating information in library databases and print collection in regards to periodicals. Librarian (Technical Services) - U.S. Coast Guard Academy, New London. GS-1410-09 I. Position Summary: This position is located in the Library of the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, New London, Connecticut, a four-year, accredited, degree granting institution and center of leadership development for the Coast Guard. The instant position reports to the Library Director and is a member of the Technical Services team led by the Systems Librarian/Head of Technical Services. The incumbent employs standard methods, techniques, concepts, and principles of librarianship to provide professional library services, such as cataloging and classifying materials and maintaining library collections. The incumbent assists the Systems Librarian in the authentication, activation and maintenance of access to paper and electronic serials. The employee is expected and to stay abreast of technology changes, and may make recommendations for improvements to cataloging and serial policies and procedures and workflows. II. Major Duties and Responsibilities: A. Catalogs and classifies materials, including serials, electronic resources, DVDs, microforms, and archives using established local practices and national and international standards such as Anglo-American Cataloging Rules, MARC, Resource Description and Access(RDA), Library of Congress Subject Headings and classification schedules, and other metadata standards. B. Performs database maintenance when needed in the course of daily work or as a part of projects. C. Maintains quality control standards in own work by checking for and correcting errors. D. Maintains serials local holdings in OCLC and assists the Systems Librarian in purchasing, licensing, and access of serials. E. Works with the Systems Librarian to maintain Serials Solutions products, library catalog, and electronic resources and provides other systems support as required. F. Supports and helps train library technicians assigned to copy cataloging, database maintenance, processing materials, and maintaining serials. G. Assists in maintaining library collections, including government documents, special and Coast Guard collections, serials, and microforms. Assists with planning and coordinating the shifting of the collections as necessary. H. Assists in the preparation of administrative reports and maintains statistics. Helps establish policies and procedures for cataloging and serials. I. Participates in rotations at the Circulation/Reference Desk. J. Serves on library and Academy committees as appropriate. Actively participates on any assigned teams. Team tasks may include: fourth class cadet library tours, participating in the physical property inventory, shelf-reading, etc. Key Requirements: U.S. Citizenship is required. Serials (Assistant/Associate) Librarian - [#C11-048] The Elihu Burritt Library at Central Connecticut State University seeks a tenure-track Serials (Assistant) Librarian. As a member of the Acquisitions/Serials Department, the Serials Librarian is responsible for a variety of duties associated with an extensive multi-format serials collection. Duties include, but are not limited to: Approving and monitoring all serials renewals and payments, resolving complex serials problems, maintaining the accuracy of all online system records associated with serial titles in print, microfilm and electronic formats, performing all duties associated with the maintenance and accuracy of the library’s Electronic Journals A-Z list and the Electronic Resources Management system, acting as liaison with all serials vendors, maintaining all serials statistics and producing all serials reports as requested, coordinating serials collection reviews in order to ensure the relevance of the collection to university teaching and research, supervising binding operations and participating in collection development in one or more subject areas. Required Qualifications: ALA accredited Masters Degree in Library Science or substantially comparable experience and/or credentials, a minimum of three years full time technical services experience at the professional level, experience with online serials records and systems, experience with online e journal A-Z lists and link resolvers, demonstrated knowledge of e-journal packages, aggregators and online content publishers, demonstrated ability to initiate and adapt to change, demonstrated knowledge of current trends in serials acquisition, organization and content delivery, excellent oral and written communication skills, excellent organizational skills. Preferred Qualifications: Experience in an academic library serials department, knowledge of serials marc records, experience implementing and maintaining an Electronic Resources Management system (preferably III’s ERM), experience with Innovative Interfaces integrated library systems, experience with SFX A-Z electronic journals lists, knowledge of library commercial binders and library binding operations. Experience and credentials above this level may make one eligible for consideration at the rank of Associate Librarian. Educational Assistant (Part-Time Serials Librarian) - 17 hours per week. ANTICIPATED STARTING DATE: September 2008.
