     Job Description: Bay Path University seeks a new Director of Hatch Library beginning July 2018. The Hatch Library serves all members of the University community, supports all disciplines and plays a key role in student success. The Director will have significant experience with new and emerging technologies in library spaces and will be able to lead the way in envisioning the role of the library in this new era. The Director must be able to articulate the role of the library as a part of the entire University information infrastructure, and effectively and proactively manage the Library staff. The Director is responsible for all aspects of library supervision, administration, leadership, and management that promotes student, faculty, and staff support.
     The Director provides leadership to motivate staff to perform at their highest level and develops a teamwork environment within the library and beyond. The director is expected to evaluate program offerings and staff performance; providing leadership to enhance both. The successful candidate must have a broad understanding of operations and concepts in public and technical services, must demonstrate strong managerial, organizational, and planning skills including budgetary skills, effective working relationships with library users, evaluate and manage the staff, and the ability to lead the library to adapt to new and emerging technology. This position is also responsible for oversight of Library staff at other campus locations.
     Specific Responsibilities: Provide strategic vision and leadership for Hatch Library in collaboration with Division/University leadership as well as administrators, faculty, staff, and students serving as an advocate for Hatch Library. Advance the University's commitment to new modes of learning including the University's initiative of Open Educational Resources (OER). Collaborate with the University's Center for Online & Digital Learning and with Information Technology Services on the integration of appropriate and emerging technologies and provision of electronic resources to the University community. Oversee the coordination of Hatch Library Services with information services for distance students and faculty at other University campuses. Develop and oversee digital library initiatives while supporting and promoting innovative library information technologies. Facilitate the continuing transformation of the Library into part of a wider "learning commons" partnership that integrates diverse resources, seeks new opportunities, collaborates with the University community and supports a vibrant research and learning environment. Plan, develop, and implement services to meet the University's evolving instructional delivery formats, and locations for all programs. Develop, review, approve and monitor expenditures and recommend budgets. Develop and manage the collections to support instruction associated with all segments of the University and perform other collection development and acquisitions-related activities. Develop and oversee the management of online and digital library resources available to the University community, as well as the Hatch Library website. Select information resources in all formats for all campuses of the University and perform other collection development and acquisitions-related activities. Provide strong leadership and manage Hatch Library personnel activities, including hiring, training, evaluating and ensuring the professional development of library staff at all University locations. Participate with faculty on curriculum, instructional strategies, new technologies, distance learning and online support services, assessment, and policy making. Develop and evaluate the library's vision, mission, goals, and objectives to ensure that resources and services meet the changing needs of students, faculty, and curriculum. Collaborate with campus groups to enhance the library's role in promoting information literacy and active learning and teaching. Assess the effectiveness of the library as an administrative department (institutional effectiveness) and collaborate with faculty to ensure assessment of learning outcomes in information literacy and related areas of the curriculum. Experience with delivering effective reference and instruction services to a wide-range of learners. Represent the Library and University with Cooperating Colleges of Greater Springfield in various resource sharing and cooperative efforts. Attend trainings as required. Maintain active involvement with the University community via committee and task force membership as well as membership and participation in external professional organizations.
     Requirements: MLS degree from an ALA accredited program with a minimum of five years related work experience and managerial experience in an academic library setting. Demonstrated record of progressively responsible library and supervisory experience in an academic setting, preferably in an institution offering graduate degree programs. Demonstrated ability to lead strategic planning to address 21st century challenges. Experience in collection development of print and electronic information resources along with knowledge of advanced information systems. Personnel management experience and strong interpersonal skills; demonstrated ability in problem solving and conflict resolution. Demonstrated record of fiscal responsibility in managing a complex budget. Comprehensive knowledge of academic librarianship, emerging technologies, innovative library services, information management and web technology. Teaching experience at the graduate or undergraduate levels. Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal skills. Ability to handle multiple projects and assignments with high quality and minimal errors. Demonstrated service oriented attitude. Ability to perform work with frequent deadlines and extreme amount of external pressure to complete assignments. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, subordinates and students. Ability to perform work independently, use of good judgment in decision making, maintain confidentiality. Willingness to work flexible and extended schedule including weekends and evenings when necessary. Valid driver's license. Executive Director - SAILS Library Network (MA)

Executive Director - SAILS Library Network. SAILS is a forward looking, cost effective, member-driven, non-profit organization that provides resource sharing to meet patron needs through cooperation, leadership, and technology. SAILS administers the online catalog and circulation system for 76 public, K-12, and academic libraries located in 39 communities in Southeastern Massachusetts.
     Position Overview - Responsible for the leadership, development, and administration of the SAILS Network, including strategic planning, personnel management and administration, budget development and communication with member libraries. Keeps current of technological development in the library world and ensures network services meet the needs of member libraries. Upholds and advances the mission of the SAILS Network.
     The Executive Director reports to the SAILS Executive Board, and is annually evaluated by the Personnel Committee. The Executive Director functions under the general direction of the Executive Board, but has wide latitude for independent judgment, decision-making and action.

     Duties: Administer the operations and policies of the network under the guidance of the Executive Board. Provide leadership in achieving network goals. Evaluate network needs, develop plans, and propose services, activities, and changes in operation. Work directly with SAILS board in an administrative, technical, and advisory role. Serve as chief human resources officer, with overall responsibility for recruiting and retaining an effective, informed, committed and high performing staff. Prepare the annual budget and action plan for SAILS, working with appropriate advisory committees. Direct and monitor expenditures of network funds. Plan and oversee the needs, security and integrity of the Central Site. Ensure that facilities and equipment are properly maintained. Coordinate maintenance and repair functions. Monitor emerging technology and state, regional, and national trends regarding the information infrastructure and create strategies to implement new technologies into SAILS services. Provide direction and technical assistance to advisory committees in the development and implementation of network policies. Responsible for developing and producing appropriate means of keeping member libraries informed about upcoming events and network services. Develop a continuing education program, conducting specific workshops as appropriate. Develop and compile evaluation tools in order to determine user satisfaction of network services. Interact with network vendors exploring new services and negotiating contracts. Monitor compliance with and implementation of vendor contracts. Perform grant manager role, keeping network members informed of available grants, submitting proposals, and writing reports on programs receiving grant funding. Represent the SAILS Network at various state, regional, national, professional, and other groups as requested by the Board. Must be able to travel to member libraries and off-site meetings. Ensure compliance with all local, state and federal obligations related to maintaining the status of SAILS as a 501 (c) (3) corporation. Perform other duties as assigned by the SAILS Board.
     Experience: Minimum 5 years’ experience demonstrated responsibility for fiscal and personnel management, strategic planning and library administration. Prior experience administering a 501 (c) (3) corporation highly desirable.
     Qualifications: MLS from an ALA accredited program. Minimum 2 years in a leadership position with an automated library network. Proven knowledge of library automation, telecommunications, and emerging technologies. Demonstrated ability to maintain awareness of current trends and new developments and evaluate their impact on the organization. Excellent interpersonal skills and an ability to deal effectively with diverse audiences and stakeholders with various levels of experience. Proven written and oral communications and group facilitation skills. Strong grantsmanship skills desirable. Flexibility in a continually changing environment. Valid Driver’s License and vehicle with current insurance coverage. Mileage will be reimbursed at current IRS rate.

Library Director - Swansea Public Library, Swansea, MA. The Swansea Public Library Board of Trustees seeks an enthusiastic, community-minded, visionary leader as its next director.  The ideal candidate will be a strong advocate for the Library's programs, possess excellent knowledge of current best practices, and exhibit a commitment to community engagement. The Library Director is responsible for the management, administration and direction of daily library operations and services, including preparing and managing the library budget, short and long-range planning, grant applications, collection development, community outreach, and managing personnel. 
      The library’s mission is to be at the center of community life where reading, lifelong learning, recreational, cultural services, and civic pride thrive. Swansea is a town of 16,263 residents in southeastern Massachusetts. The town is primarily residential with four elementary schools, one junior high school, and one high school. Swansea has a town administrator and elected selectmen form of government. The Library Director reports to the Library Board of Trustees and to the Town Administrator. The library has an annual budget of $323,990.00, an annual circulation of 72,927, 5 FT staff and 7 PT staff.  In 2017 the Swansea Public Library was awarded a MBLC construction grant totaling $6,875,844.00. The library director will have responsibilities to contribute to fund-raising, working with the Architects, OPM, MBLC, the library building committee, and town officials on this building project as we move forward with the building design and securing matching funds from the town.
     QUALIFICATIONS: A Master’s Degree in Library or Information Science from an ALA accredited school. A minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in professional library work, including library management and direct supervision of others. Demonstrated organizational and interpersonal skills, as well as effective verbal and written communication skills. Substantial experience with computers, technology, social media, MS Office Suite, the Internet, Integrated Library Systems Software, and other software and applications as needed. Experience with researching and pursuing grant proposals to fund new or supplementary programs and services. Considerable ability to interact with the general public, elected and appointed officials, outside organizations, and professional associations. Experience with building renovation projects preferred.

     Job Summary: The Research and Instruction Librarian provides reference and information literacy instruction services to students, faculty, and staff of the University.
     Essential Duties: Provide traditional and electronic reference desk service, including the use of print and electronic resources, to students, faculty, and staff of the University. Design and teach information literacy and library instruction classes or courses to students, faculty, and staff. Maintain the reference collection and recommend appropriate reference resources, both print and non-print. Design and prepare documentation to assist library users in identifying, locating, evaluating, and using all types and formats of information resources. Develop instructional materials, such as web-based bibliographic guides, pathfinders, and tutorials. Help create and maintain the Hatch Library web site in cooperation with other librarians. Collaborate with faculty to carry out and assess the University's information literacy program and integrate library resources and services with instruction. Participate in projects designed to increase campus-wide awareness and use of library resources and services. Maintain currency in reference and instruction issues and skills by reading professional literature, participating in professional organizations, and attending meetings relevant to academic librarianship. Assist in routine library duties, including circulation and collection maintenance. Attend trainings as required. Attend and participate in required meetings. Conduct special research projects as needed. Complete any other assignments as directed by the University.

     Job Description: Position Code: ASL. Job Type: Full-time. Hours: 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Schedule: Monday - Friday; occasional evenings and/or weekends.
     Job Summary: The Access Services Librarian provides energetic, innovative, and user-focused leadership of Hatch Library circulation, reserves, and interlibrary loan services; trains and supervises the work of library student assistants and part-time staff as assigned; and collaborates with other Hatch librarians in delivering research and instructional services to students and faculty in all Bay Path University programs.
     Essential Duties: Oversee daily operation of Hatch circulation desk, reserves, and interlibrary loan (ILL) services to Bay Path faculty, staff, and students at all levels, including administration of BPU procedures and WMS software. Provide information literacy instruction and support, in on-ground and online classroom environments, in collaboration with other Hatch librarians. Perform outreach on behalf of the library, including via social media, to all Bay Path populations. Share research desk coverage with other Hatch librarians, including in-person, phone, and email reference service. Hire, train, schedule, and supervise the work of library student assistants and maintain regular contact with the Financial Aid Office and HR department, who manage BPU's work-study program. Help maintain the Hatch Library web site in collaboration with other librarians. Share collection development responsibilities with other Hatch librarians. Participate in Hatch Library digital initiatives, including archives and institutional repository services, in collaboration with other librarians. Share faculty departmental liaison responsibilities with other Hatch librarians. Maintain current awareness of issues and trends in college access services through professional development resources and activities. Conduct special research projects as needed. Develop professional contacts with counterparts in other local institutions. Supervise other Hatch staff providing access services as assigned. Attend trainings as required.      Requirements: MLS from an ALA-accredited program. At least three years of related experience in an academic library preferred. Knowledge of current and emerging trends in access services in academic libraries. Working knowledge of Microsoft Windows operating systems and Microsoft Office applications. Proficiency with social media tools, including facebook, twitter, and instagram. Demonstrated understanding of established information literacy standards for academic libraries, including the ACRL Information Literacy Competency Standards for Higher Education. Successful supervisory and leadership experience, with demonstrated commitment to mentoring, training, and staff development. Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal skills. Library Director - Northfield Mount Hermon (MA). Full Time, Academic Year. NMH seeks a dynamic individual to serve as Library Director to lead and oversee all aspects of the school’s library. Reporting to the Dean of Faculty, the Director works closely with NMH program leaders and the Director of Academic Technology to ensure the library’s academic and technical resources adequately support and advance the school’s educational program. The Library Director is responsible for working with faculty and staff to develop and implement instructional design solutions for the classroom. Property Management: Manages the physical plant, as well as the preventative maintenance program, to ensure proper maintenance and utilization of the library. Analyzes and identifies building and grounds needs and recommends improvements, repairs and additions as necessary to the Board of Trustees. Evaluates, introduces and maintains new technology as appropriate. Arranges for or conducts library staff training. Strives to encourage gift giving to the library. Coordinates and analyzes the library operations and functions to ensure accuracy, efficiency and quality. Maintains the Library website. Analyzes library operations, summarizes service developments and progress in achieving core objectives to provide the Board with the information necessary for sound decision making and fiscal responsibility. Maintains/expands current Adult programming (speakers, authors etc.), as community interest dictates Communication: Attends and participates in all Board meetings and advises Trustees of programs, services, facility, planning, personnel and policy matters requiring consideration/action, as well as any changes in library services, programs, and collection. Presents a written Director’s Reports at all meetings identifying the progress and status of ongoing library programs and other matters requiring the Board’s attention. Library Services Consultant (New England Territory) - OCLC, Boston (MA). The Library Services Consultant is responsible for marketing and sales of specific OCLC products and services to medium to large individual institution accounts, including strategic academic and public libraries within an assigned geographic territory. The Library Services Consultant will participate in team selling to groups and consortia usually of single type (all academic libraries group, all public libraries group, etc.). The primary focus of the Library Services Consultant is achieving and surpassing sales goals established for each fiscal year by account and/or product. Activities include direct field sales to libraries and work with OCLC-affiliated regional network staff to insure appropriate sales efforts are developed and executed. The Library Services Consultant is responsible for the relationship with the account from initial contact through the development of the account for long-term mutual benefit to the account, OCLC, and the network. Due to the nature of this position extensive travel is required (i.e., 60 - 80% of the time). The Library Service Consultant –Research Libraries is responsible for field sales and will work closely with the Executive Director, US Library Services, library services consultants, product management staff, order processing staff, and OCLC-affiliated Partners representatives to: Develop sales plans, regional and within a territory. Execute sales and promotional plans through direct field sales efforts (usually 250-300 accounts within an assigned geographical region (one state or more). Responsible for in-depth knowledge of library automation, library workflow, OCLC product and services, applications of the products and services, product line potential, and customers of the library or group (end-users). Develops territory plans/presentations by account type and by product line for use in sales to both the "decision-makers" and “operational” staff in prospect organizations. Works with team members in Library Services U.S. Division, other OCLC divisions, and OCLC Partners to facilitate communication and implementation of sales/marketing activities. This includes participation in marketing communications activities for assigned products and services, such as advertising, brochures, direct mail, news releases and newsletter articles. Communicates results and findings from sales calls, conferences, and meetings through established reporting mechanisms in order to contribute to market research and product development. Close sales - typical sales goals are in the range of $15 million per year for the full array of OCLC services (excluding Dewey and Preservation Resources). Establish and maintain relationships with regional networks, libraries and groups. Position requires a minimum of three years' experience as outside sales representative in the information industry or with library automation. Ability to manage complex sales cycles. Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills. Prior team selling experience. Demonstrated experience at making presentations to large groups. Self-motivated; self-starter; able to work from home. Library sales experience strongly preferred. MLS or MBA with experience in the information industry or with library automation is a plus.
