Health Science Librarian - University of Bridgeport

Health Science Librarian - University of Bridgeport. Reporting to the University Librarian, the Health Science Librarian is a full-time, 10-month (see schedule below) position that works as a part of a team of Librarians providing reference and instruction services.
     The Health Science Librarian serves as the expert for all of the Health Science programs including Nursing, Physician Assistant Institute, Naturopathic Medicine, Chiropractic Medicine, Acupuncture, Nutrition and Dental Hygiene and is the liaison to all of the Health Science/Science programs.
     The incumbent is responsible for understanding, publicizing, and updating Evidence Informed Practice Information Literacy; creating and maintaining the Health related research guides, handouts, web pages, tutorials, rubrics, assessment tools, collection development, and benchmarking the Health Science collections. The Health Science Librarian, with the assistance of the Library technical team, is responsible for the optimal look and functionality of all of the Health Science databases, modules, web pages, software and the Anatomical Collections.
     Librarians contribute to the leadership of the University through participation in University-wide committees and through professional relationships and activities. They participate in leadership of the Library by setting a professional example and monitoring the activities of library staff and services offered with a goal of quality customer service, positivity, acceptance of University limitations and continuous improvement of services.
     The Health Science Librarian typical schedule is 11:00 AM – 7:00 PM Monday through Friday with occasional schedule changes for 9:30 AM classes. Summer hours are subject to change. This 10 month librarian has approximately 4.5 weeks off after both the fall and spring final exams.
     Responsibilities: Answer Questions in-person, by telephone, online, and via email. Teach Information Literacy as a member of the Library Instruction Team. Develop curriculum content, rubrics, assessment tools, information literacy skills tests, web-based tutorials, modules for Evidence Informed Health Information Literacy. Write & Maintain the Evidence Based pages of the Information Lit. Plan/Web Page. Develop all Health Sciences Collections collaborating with faculty on collection needs and benchmarking individual collections. Keep other librarians informed of Evidence Informed Practice, updates, practices, AMA initiatives. Maintain the Anatomical Collections and Health Science Databases. Communicate with Health Science faculty and Maintain the H.S. Outreach program. Act as a Member of the Library Professional Team Monitoring Quality of Service Provided by Staff, Reporting Issues Observed. Maintain an atmosphere conducive to learning in the Library by enforcing Library policies, especially noise policies. On occasion, assist with health science related Interlibrary Loan (docline). Back Up the I.T. help desk and Access Services as needed. Other work related duties as assigned.
     Qualifications: MLS or MLIS from an ALA-accredited program. 1+ year experience in a Medical library or as a Health Science liaison. Ability to read and order in Library of Congress Classification Scheme. Expert knowledge of Health Sci. databases, MeSH, EBP or EIP, medical terminology. Demonstrated skills in Office, Access, Excel, Word, AMA Style, ILS. Flexibility and Strong interpersonal skills, ability to establish positive, productive working relationships with staff and students including International and first generation. Prefer Undergraduate degree in science or health.

Research and Instruction Librarian - Quinnipiac University

Research and Instruction Librarian - The Edward and Barbara Netter Library at Quinnipiac University seeks a dynamic, motivated and service-oriented librarian responsible for developing and delivering innovative information services in the health and basic sciences. The Research and Instruction Librarian supports and collaborates with faculty to integrate electronic information resources into the curriculum. This position will provide innovative library instruction and information literacy programs, including faculty outreach and developing collaborative teaching and learning opportunities inside and outside of the classroom. The successful candidate will also serve as a liaison to assigned academic departments and provide consultation, technical assistance and creative expertise to tailor instructional resources to faculty and student needs.
     Reporting to the Director, the Research and Instruction Librarian will primarily support the new Frank H. Netter, MD School of Medicine as well as assisting with the School of Health Sciences and the School of Nursing on the Quinnipiac University North Haven Campus.

Library Assistant V, Science Library - Wesleyan University

Reporting to the Science Librarian, Library Assistant V has the primary responsibility for the processing, circulation, and organization of the physical reserves for Division III (natural sciences and mathematics); management of the video recording and maps collections for the Wesleyan University Library, (collections which are housed in the Science Library); maintenance and bindery preparation for current periodicals in the Science Library; and the creation of item records for bound journal volumes.
The position shares responsibility for opening and maintaining Science Library facilities; supervising student employees and daily operations; assisting patrons and providing information about the library; stacks maintenance; and troubleshooting public printers and library technology.
Primary responsibilities include:
• Process and oversee physical reserve services for Division III courses.
• Receive reserve requests submitted by/for faculty, work with acquisitions and CTW libraries to obtain materials as necessary, enter and maintain reserve items in the online library system, inventory physical materials each semester, and determine need for replacement of lost or missing items.
• Train and supervise student employees in reserve circulation policies and procedures and shelf reading of the reserve collection.
• Propose, implement, evaluate and revise reserve procedures as needed.
• Maintain the circulation and fine system for Science Library Reserve materials.
• Coordinate reserve policies and procedures with Olin Library staff.
• Compile and maintain the computer files, records, and statistics for Science Library Reserve.
• Manage video recordings (VHS and DVD) collections, including conducting a periodic inventory of the collections and, with the Collection Development Coordinator and subject selectors, arrange for the replacement of lost or damaged recordings and those in a deteriorating or obsolete format as necessary.
• Oversee re-shelving and maintenance of current periodicals in the Science Library; coordinate binding with the Serials Department; record in-house journal usage statistics when necessary.
• Conduct long-term project to barcode and add item records for all bound journal volumes in the Science Library.
• Work on special projects as needed and in collaboration with other library departments to fulfill the mission and vision of the library.
• Change processes and workflow based on customer demands and library vision.
• Participate in library meetings, committees, and initiatives.
• Participate in university initiatives as appropriate.
• Attend training sessions and conferences as appropriate.
• Perform other duties as assigned. Shared responsibilities include:
• Open the Science Library when scheduled and supervise student employees.
• Supervise and participate in the daily operations of the Science Library circulation desk; ensure that the circulation desk is staffed whenever the library is open.
• Assist users with circulation problems, questions, complaints; explain library policies and procedures; update patron records as needed.
• Provide information regarding the library and its collections; assist users with the online catalog, use of electronic resources, location of books in the stacks, and materials in other library collections.
• Supervise shelving and stacks maintenance for assigned Science Library collections; identify items needing preservation/repair, oversee shelf reading, physical shifting of materials, and signage.
• Troubleshoot multi-function devices (printers/scanners/copiers) and work with ITS and MFD vendor as needed to resolve problems; order supplies for printers.
• Assist library users with general technology questions and troubleshooting.
• Provide administrative support to the Science Librarian as requested.
• Act as backup for the other Science Library Assistant, performing her primary responsibilities when she is absent.
Perform other duties as assigned.
This a full time position, 35hrs per week, in the secretarial/clerical bargaining unit.
Associate degree and eight years of related experience including three or more years in a library. Education may be substituted for years of experience.
Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office and the staff modules of an integrated library system.
Experience in an online library environment. Understanding of Library of Congress classification system and MARC cataloging format. Experience with a range of computer software and applications. Comfort and facility learning new technology independently and demonstrated technology troubleshooting abilities. Accurate and rapid keyboarding skills.
Demonstrated ability to collaborate and work in a team environment. Demonstrated customer service skills and ability to interact effectively with diverse groups.
Ability to perform the primary responsibilities of the position listed above with reasonable accommodations if needed.
Bachelor’s degree strongly preferred.
Background in the sciences or mathematics. Experience supervising student employees and working in an academic library public services department.
Experience using the circulation, reserve, and cataloging clients of an integrated library system. Working knowledge of Voyager.
Experience processing and managing print reserves in an academic library environment.
Methodical and detail-oriented. Comfort with mobile technology and social media. Ability to deal with ambiguity and work in a constantly changing environment. Ability to work with a variety of people and to prioritize needs.
Ability to work a flexible schedule is desirable.
