Director - Brainerd Memorial Library
Director - The Board of Trustees of the Brainerd Memorial Library (Haddam, Connecticut) announces an opening for director of this small-town library. Brainerd Memorial Library, an association library, is funded in part through its endowment and in part by the town of Haddam. The library holds collections of 40,000 in its recently renovated 12,000 square foot historic facility. There are 9 dedicated staff, all part-time. Brainerd Library is open Tuesday through Saturday for a total of 43 hours (39 hours in summer). The Library has a dedicated Friends group, programming for adults and children, outreach to local schools, homebound service, and a delivery service to Haddam Neck on the opposite side of the Connecticut River. Strong community support for the library has resulted in budget increases over the last 4 years. Starting salary: $44,700, plus benefits. Consultant - EqualAccess LibrariesTM Professional Development Program. This position would be employed by the Libraries for the Future and work with the Connecticut State Library. A consultant to be based out of the Connecticut State Library is sought to lead the rollout and management of EqualAccess in Connecticut. This is a part-time position, ranging from 15 to 25 hours per week, with modest travel required within Connecticut and to other states participating in EqualAccess. The start date is immediate, and the position will continue through the spring of 2009. Compensation will depend upon experience and level of involvement, with a maximum compensation of $27,000 per year. Benefits are not included. The Greenwich Country Day School is an independent, co-educational day school comprised of three divisions - Lower, Middle and Upper schools which serve 840 students in nursery through ninth grade. JOB DESCRIPTION: Assist the Director of Library and Media Services with the following: Evaluate and acquire collection materials to support the curriculum. Provide reading guidance and reference assistance in the library and through outreach efforts such as newsletters and publicity. Arrange for library lessons, booktalks, reading and storytelling programs, bibliographies, and reserve collections as requested by teachers. Work with faculty to meet their requests and encourage them to take advantage of materials and services. Share in selecting and reading books added annually to the library. Evaluate collection for additions, deletions, repairs, reorders, reorganization, etc. Help choose books to be included in the GCDS Reading List. Develop and maintain library webpages. Share in cataloging, circulation, and organizational tasks using online automation software. Coordinate the use of the library by regularly scheduled classes, teacher requests for class research, and special events. Attend Divisional and grade level meetings. Work cooperatively with faculty in meetings pertaining to curriculum development and instructional planning. Maintain professional currency, including reading professional books and journals, attending professional conferences, visiting other school libraries, etc. Arrange appropriate programs such as author visits, storytellers, etc. QUALIFICATIONS: Master's degree in library science. Personal traits for nurturing the growth of children and working cooperatively with adults; kind, enthusiastic, creative, flexible, patient, able to communicate clearly. Sense of humor. Library experience and experience with children preferred.
