Director - Brainerd Memorial Library

Director - The Board of Trustees of the Brainerd Memorial Library (Haddam, Connecticut) announces an opening for director of this small-town library. Brainerd Memorial Library, an association library, is funded in part through its endowment and in part by the town of Haddam. The library holds collections of 40,000 in its recently renovated 12,000 square foot historic facility. There are 9 dedicated staff, all part-time. Brainerd Library is open Tuesday through Saturday for a total of 43 hours (39 hours in summer). The Library has a dedicated Friends group, programming for adults and children, outreach to local schools, homebound service, and a delivery service to Haddam Neck on the opposite side of the Connecticut River. Strong community support for the library has resulted in budget increases over the last 4 years. Starting salary: $44,700, plus benefits. Minimum Required Qualifications: MLS degree (strongly preferred) or comparable experience; knowledge of library organization, technology, and financial procedures, and a broad understanding of library services; administrative experience, and familiarity with automated library systems (III preferred); demonstrated ability to train and supervise personnel, both professional and volunteer; good interpersonal skills; familiarity with current library trends; and a friendly and helpful attitude.
