University Library Assistant I Law - The University of Connecticut School of Law announces an anticipated opening at the Law Library for a University Library Assistant I Law (UCPI). This full-time position is assigned to the Law School campus, in Hartford, Connecticut. This position performs basic library tasks related to receiving and processing of library materials. Characteristic duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to: performing basic operations to provide bibliographic verification and control of library materials; processing records, evaluating information on the basis of established guidelines and choosing among several alternatives; processing shipments of serials and monographs to and from the commercial bindery; performing basic operations related to receiving deliveries and distributing material upon receipt; providing information and explaining departmental policies and procedures about the receipt and routing of serial titles to other library staff; may train, assign work to and supervise student assistants who perform basic library tasks; and perform other related duties as required. Minimum acceptable qualifications include: Bachelor's degree, or equivalent combination of training and experience; ability to learn and effectively apply basic library techniques; ability to work with computer generated records and extract pertinent information following established library procedures; ability to communicate effectively and courteously with library staff, University faculty, staff, students, and the public in person and via telephone; demonstrated ability to follow detailed instructions; demonstrated knowledge of the relationship of a particular assignment to the goals of the department. Preferred Qualifications include: familiarity with integrated library system, preferably III Millennium; familiarity with academic law library materials; employment experience in academic library; employment experience in research library's acquisitions unit; employment experience in a law library's serials unit; familiarity with government documents and materials; familiarity with binding software, preferably ABLE; ability to adapt to changing priorities and workloads. Five day standard workweek varies to meet the needs of the department. The Law Library operates seven days per week, including evenings. Targeted salary is $32,000.
