Children's Services Reference Librarian

Legislative Aide

Connecticut State Library Bill Room As an employee of the principal Law Library in the State of CT, the individual in this position will learn the legislative process by working with highly skilled government professionals.  The Bill Room is part of the Law & Legislative Reference Department at the Connecticut State Library, which is located in the State Supreme Court Building across the street from the State Capitol.  Staff provide legal and legislative reference services to members of the Bench, the Bar, State Agencies, students and faculty as well as the general public. Duties of this position primarily include organizing legislative bills along with accompanying amendments, roll call votes, etc..  This constitutes the State’s permanent archive of sessional General Assembly material associated with the legislative process.  Other tasks dependent on interest and time may include visiting legislative offices to acquire timely legislative documents, tracking bills via CGALites (the Connecticut General Assembly's intranet), attending public hearings covering an area of personal interest, and special projects as needed.  Position coincides with the 2016 regular Legislative session (beginning on February 3 and ending May 4, 2016). Children's Librarian

The Ferguson Library in Stamford is looking for an energetic and enthusiastic children’s librarian to provide reference and reader’s advisory services, develop and conduct programs, and assist with collection maintenance at the Weed-Hollander Memorial Branch. Children’s Library Assistant

Wilton Library is seeking an energetic, creative individual to assist with collections, perform service desk duties, create and assist with programs for ages 5–12 as well as preschool story times. Excellent computer skills, including Word, Excel, Publisher and social media are required, as well as attention to detail and the ability to work well with other team members in a creative and vibrant environment.  Applicants must also demonstrate an interest in reading children’s literature. Qualifications:  Undergraduate degree or equivalent preferred.  Library knowledge and/or experience in working with children ages birth–12 is required.  Demonstrated creative ability.  Musical skills are a plus.Schedule:  Part-time, hourly position.  The schedule is Tuesdays 9-5, Wednesdays 1–8, and Thursdays 10-5, plus the second Saturday of each month.  Candidates must be flexible and able to fill in for other staff as necessary. P/T Head of Technical Services (18 hours per week)

The Hagaman Memorial Library (East Haven, CT) is hiring a P/T Head of the Technical Department. The responsibilities of the position are: (1) classifying all library materials; (2) supervising 2 Technical Services staff members who receive, physically prepare library materials and who enter holdings; (3) ordering A/V materials for the adult collection; (4) some computer/software maintenance; and (5) assisting in short and long term planning of the Technical Services Department. The education and experience looked for in the position are: (1) Master of Library Science degree preferred, or a combination of education and experience deemed acceptable; (2) experience in the use of ILS computer systems, with experience with cataloging modules as essential, and with knowledge of the Evergreen Open Source ILS a plus; (3) working knowledge of DDC23, MARC standards, LOC headings, and authority control; (4) using computer databases in the performance of cataloging duties preferred; (5) communicating effectively with library staff and patrons; (6) supervisory experience preferred. Starting salary range is $24-$25.50/hour, plus vacation, sick, and personal leave. Position starts the week of January 04, 2015 and applications accepted until the position is filled.
