P/T Head of Technical Services (18 hours per week)

The Hagaman Memorial Library (East Haven, CT) is hiring a P/T Head of the Technical Department. The responsibilities of the position are: (1) classifying all library materials; (2) supervising 2 Technical Services staff members who receive, physically prepare library materials and who enter holdings; (3) ordering A/V materials for the adult collection; (4) some computer/software maintenance; and (5) assisting in short and long term planning of the Technical Services Department. The education and experience looked for in the position are: (1) Master of Library Science degree preferred, or a combination of education and experience deemed acceptable; (2) experience in the use of ILS computer systems, with experience with cataloging modules as essential, and with knowledge of the Evergreen Open Source ILS a plus; (3) working knowledge of DDC23, MARC standards, LOC headings, and authority control; (4) using computer databases in the performance of cataloging duties preferred; (5) communicating effectively with library staff and patrons; (6) supervisory experience preferred. Starting salary range is $24-$25.50/hour, plus vacation, sick, and personal leave. Position starts the week of January 04, 2015 and applications accepted until the position is filled.
