This position is located in the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, Academic Division, Library, New London, CT. U.S. Citizenship is required. MAJOR DUTIES: Serves as the technician in charge of inter-library loan and circulation of library materials to support education and training outcomes of the Academy; Responsible for returning items and keeping records of each transaction, monitoring transactions and sending overdue reminders, lending to other libraries, and ensuring transactions are in compliance with current copyright laws; Issuing new library cards, tracking delinquent borrowers, managing hold and renewal requests, preparing course reserves, handling all procedures for graduating cadets to insure all materials are returned and all graduates are deleted from the database and keeping and compiling circulation and door counter statistics; Performs other duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the grade 04 level in the Federal service; OR You have successfully completed 4 years above the high school level in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university; OR You have equivalent combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and experience. Part-time Children's Library Position - The Westport Public Library is seeking a creative, energetic individual with experience in children's library programming to be an active part of our enthusiastic Children's Library team. Requirements: Pre school programming experience. Comfortable providing reader's advisory with a working knowledge of children's literature and reading interests. Able to relate to children of all ages as well as their parents and caregivers. Must be a confident user of technology and Microsoft Office. Ability to bend, lift and carry. Reference Services Internship Program - West Hartford Public Library
Reference Services Internship Program - The West Hartford Public Library welcomes applications from MLS candidates for its newly created internship program. The program has been designed to provide practical, on-the-job experience to individuals pursuing a career in reference service. Applicants must have completed at least four graduate level library science courses before the start date of their internship including a reference services course. The successful applicant will be paid a stipend of $3750 for 250 hours of work over approximately 5 months. The intern will have the opportunity to shadow librarians at a fast-paced reference desk as well as assist them with off-desk assignments such as collection and website development, digitization projects, subject bibliographies, readers’ advisory aids, indexing, and other projects as assigned. Although the intern will work primarily in the Adult Division of the Noah Webster Library located at 20 South Main Street, s/he will do a rotation in each of the library’s two branches as well as other library divisions to gain a broader understanding of public library operations. This internship program is funded through the generous support of the West Hartford Public Library Foundation’s Thomas F. Kilfoil Fund. Eligibility and requirements: Enrollment in a Master of Library Science Program. Applicants must have completed at least four courses including a reference services course before the start date of the internship. Applicants must be eligible to work in the U.S. The stipend is provided by the West Hartford Library Foundation and will be administered by the school in which the student is enrolled. Schedule is flexible but may include some weekday, as well as evening and weekend hours. Candidate must have reliable transportation.
