     Job Summary: The Head of Reference manages the Reference Department including staffing, scheduling, collection development, business outreach, providing reference and reader’s advisory. Serves as part of the library management team including UX, database selection, and advisement on the library facility. Experience with Wordpress, Evergreen ILS, and archives management preferred.

Head of Children's Services - Public Library of New London

Head of Children's Services - The Public Library of New London is seeking a creative and energetic Head of Children’s Services who has a passion for working with children and families. Responsible for providing quality library services to children, their caregivers and other adults working with children. Manage one full-time and several part-time staff. Plan, implement and supervise programs. Select materials to develop a collection that offers relevant resources. Develop and maintain layout and appearance of the children’s space, ensuring a safe and inviting area. Promote library services by outreach and partnerships with schools, daycare centers and community groups that target children. Marketing children’s services and programs, maintaining the children’s section of the web site, keeping social media up to date and producing an electronic newsletter are also important components of this position.
     MLS/MLIS from an accredited institution and experience working with children required. Professional library experience preferred. The ideal candidate has experience working with young children and their caregivers using early and pre-literacy concepts, such as the skills and practices in Every Child Ready to Read. Second language skills (English/Spanish) are a plus.

New London is home to three colleges, an active arts scene and is the birth place of Eugene O’Neill. The main Amtrak line between Boston and New York stops three blocks from the library.
     This is a full-time position with a benefit package. The starting salary is $50,000 for a 35 hour week, including one evening a week and one Saturday a month. A car and valid driver’s license also necessary.

Specific responsibilities include reference and reader’s advisory service, assistance with locating and selecting materials, accessing databases and supporting patrons with use of technology. Head of Children’s Services - Wolcott Public Library

Head of Children’s Services - Wolcott Public Library. This is a full time 40 hour position that includes some evening hours and some Saturdays. The successful candidate will be responsible for all activities related to children’s services, including but not limited to developing and maintaining the children’s collection, planning and executing programming for all ages, reader’s advisory and community outreach. Strong customer service skills and excellent verbal and written communication skills are a must. The salary range is $18.00-$19.00 per hour which includes paid sick, vacation, and holiday days, as well as medical benefits. Head of Adult Services - Fairfield Public Library

Head of Adult Services - Town of Fairfield invites applications for the Position of: Head of Adult Services, Fairfield Public Library. SALARY: $73,757. UNION/GRADE: PETA-9.
     Nature of Work: Under the direction of the Town Librarian, plans, implements and evaluates Adult Library Services for the Fairfield Community.
     Examples of duties: Direct supervision of the Adult Services Staff responsible for public services, collections, computer lab and study rooms management, homebound delivery and adult programming. Management of full and part time employees. Working on the adult reference desk for up to 20 hours per week; offering direct service to patrons; readers advisory services, answering requests for information, assisting patrons with the use of the library, including operation of computers and other technology. Creates and maintains adult reference desk schedule. Cooperatively develop policy and procedures for adult services at Main Library and Woods Branch. System wide collection maintenance and development, utilizing the prescribed budget through the selection and ordering of new material and the weeding of outdated materials. Member of the library management team. Participates in and leads relevant staff meetings, workshops and training sessions. Plan professional development opportunities for staff. Community outreach. Collaboration with Woods Branch, other library and town departments as well as outside agencies.
     Required knowledge, Skills and abilities: Demonstrates superb customer service; enjoys interacting with the public, providing reference and readers’ advisory services. Must have proven record leading and training staff effectively. Demonstrated experience in managing digital collections and vendor fulfillment and services. Highly skilled in work demanding detail and accuracy. Penchant for seeking out innovative best practices using new technologies. Comprehensive understanding of collection development practices and policies. Significant experience working with budgets, public programming and desk scheduling. Familiarity with grant writing.
     Minimum Qualifications: Master’s degree in Library and Information Science from an American Library Association accredited university. Three to four years of experience as a professional librarian in adult services. A minimum of 3 years of progressively responsible administration experience.
