Assistant Librarian, Cataloging & Metadata - Western Connecticut State University, Danbury, is pleased to announce that applications are currently being accepted for a full-time, tenure-track Cataloging and Metadata Librarian position in the Ruth A. Haas Library. The Cataloging and Metadata Librarian focuses on the creation, maintenance, and enrichment of metadata representing the library's digital, physical, and virtual collections. Tenure Track. Academic Year 2014 - 2015. The Cataloging and Metadata Librarian manages the ongoing work of the Cataloging Department and is responsible for the cataloging of materials in all formats, including print and digital resources. Works closely with colleagues to evaluate and document policies, procedures and workflows for cataloging, database maintenance and non-MARC metadata creation within the library. Position includes departmental liaison and collection development responsibilities, and general reference duties. The Cataloging and Metadata Librarian collaborates with Acquisitions, Archives & Special Collections, and other departments to help establish metadata policies and procedures for digital projects. The individual selected for this position will serve as a forward-thinking leader within and beyond Library Technical Services on matters of resource description and metadata management. For more information, please visit www.wcsu.edu/campustour/haas.asp. Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Masters in Library or Information Sciences from an ALA accredited program. Three years' library cataloging experience and metadata creation of material in all formats, including electronic/digital resources is required. Experience using cataloging standards and tools such as AACR2/RDA, MARC21, LCC, LCSH, and OCLC Connexion is also required as is experience in creating and editing non-MARC metadata using standards and schema such as Dublin Core, EAD, etc. Experience with integrated library systems or unified resource management systems, and online bibliographic utilities is required. Other preferred qualifications include strong problem solving skills; the ability to work collaboratively and independently in a team environment; and the willingness to share expertise with colleagues. Demonstrated initiative and proven ability to learn new technologies and adapt to changes in the profession is required. Strong service orientation and awareness of end user needs is required in order to be successful in the position. Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication is required. Academic library experience, experience with metadata issues related to the discovery of academic resources with next-generation discovery platforms and other web-based search engines are preferred, as is experience planning and implementing metadata schema for digital collections. Demonstrated effective supervisory or leadership experience is also preferred.
