Library Director Job Description: The responsibilities the library Director are complex at Canterbury School. The Library Director is expected to provide "information literacy" and a "24/7 digital workspace." The availability of resources through technology demands that the Library Director go beyond maintaining and upgrading the book collection. The library and our library Director continue to be vital components of a serious academic institution, serving schools in the following ways: RESOURCES: Books: Cull collection annually, removing some books and evaluating and adding new books; Keep the automated on-line catalog updated; Maintain and supervise the electronic check-out system. Electronic Databases: Evaluate and purchase appropriate subscription databases for research; Keep current on new databases suitable for prep school students and faculty. Other: Maintain and upgrade the following collections: DVDs, periodicals, microfilm, videos, audio CDs, newspapers, scholarly journals; Maintain the School's archives. STAFF / BUDGET / FACILITY: Supervise current part-time assistant, coordinate with the Dean of Faculty and Dean of Students any needed faculty supervision during weeknights and weekends; Evaluate and recommend other personnel needs and participate In the hiring process; Manage the Library budget covering printed material, technology, and other miscellaneous expenses; Supervise the library to ensure it is a quiet place for students and faculty to study, read, or investigate information sources; Supervise and schedule the use of the seminar room and any tutoring space; Monitor the use and condition of furniture and all aspects of the physical space to ensure the room remains attractive and user friendly.
