Library Director - Cyrenius H. Booth Library, Newtown. The Board of Trustees of the Cyrenius H. Booth Library in Newtown, CT is accepting applications for the position of Library Director. The library was founded in 1932 and occupies a beautiful architecturally significant building on Main Street, serving a population of 27,500. It is a tax-exempt nonprofit 501c(3) corporation with an 18 member Board. The Director reports to the Board of Trustees and is responsible for the management of the library, including fundraising; establishing policies and procedures that support the vision and mission of the library; developing programs responsive to the needs of the community; and preparing and administering a budget of approximately $1.3 million, 85% town funded with the balance supplied by contributions, grants, fundraisers and endowment income. The library has 10 full time and 25 part time staff and a collection of 130,000 items with an annual circulation of 259,000. The library is central to the community and offers a wide variety of programs for children, young adults and adults, providing meeting space for book groups and many other activities. Requirements: An enthusiastic, energetic leader with an MLS from an ALA accredited institution with a minimum of 5 years’ experience in strategic planning, strong computer skills and a thorough knowledge of current technology. Strong oral and written communication skills are essential along with the ability to work effectively with Board members. The successful candidate will have a proven record of success related to motivating and empowering staff. This position also requires experience with local town leaders and the public, experience in budget preparation and administration, and proven fund-raising abilities.
