Director, Library - UConn Health Center, Farmington. Summary of Position: The Director has overall authority and responsibility for the planning, direction, and operation of all administrative and service function of The Lyman Maynard Stowe Library at the UConn Health Center on the Farmington campus of the University of Connecticut. The library’s collections are broad in scope and designed to support the research, teaching, and patient-care related needs of the School of Medicine, School of Dental Medicine, Graduate School, The John Dempsey Hospital, UConn Medical Group and the extensive Research Enterprise. Reporting Relationship: Reports to the Chief Administrative Officer or designee. Principal Duties and Responsibilities: 1. Assures library goals and programs meet the Health Center’s mission and priorities. Promotes the roles and value of the Library to the institution and to citizens of the state. 2. Establishes fiscal, resource and programmatic priorities for the Library. 3. Prepares and allocates the Library budget and monitors expenditures from all accounts. 4. Works to optimize funding by promoting philanthropy and identifying grant opportunities. 5. Establishes and updates Library policies and procedures, considering the needs of present and future users within the constraints of changing fiscal conditions. 6. Maintains knowledge of innovative and emerging information technologies, and cooperates with other campus units in adapting these for use by the library staff and users. 7. Supervises all staff, which includes hiring, training and evaluation of performance against clearly defined objectives. 8. Promotes a work environment that values and reinforces diversity, integrity, excellent customer service, problem-solving, collaboration, and collegiality. 9. Coordinates meetings of Library Advisory Committee and engages the Committee in review of strategic plans, goals and priorities to meet the needs of all constituencies served. 10. Develops and provides current financial and operational data, reports, and spreadsheets to be used for documentation, planning, and management decision-making. 11. Maintains a high level of professional competence, keeps abreast of developments in the field of health sciences librarianship, and contributes to the profession through service, presentations and publications. 12. Participates in regional and national professional health sciences library organizations. 13. Collaborate with the Homer Babbidge Library at the UConn Storrs Campus to share library collections and expenses, and to facilitate an integrated library system that would serve all UConn libraries. 14. Benchmarks performance and works to continuously increase customer satisfaction. Knowledge & Skills Needed: Required: A Masters degree in Library Science or Information Science from a program accredited by the American Library Association. Excellent written and oral communication skills and excellent interpersonal skills. At least seven years of experience in an academic health sciences library. At least 4 years of supervisory experience including the successful supervision of professional librarians. Expertise with financial and statistical data, and the ability to provide and analyze reports, budgets, proposals useful for management decision-making. Proven ability to establish and maintain strong client relationships, and a demonstrated commitment to providing excellent customer service. Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the trends and issues in academic libraries. Preferred: A record of relevant professional publications and activities. Successful experience in grant proposal submissions. Successful Library fund-raising experience. Membership in the Medical Library Association’s Academy of Health Information Professionals.
