Library Director - Bristol Public Library

Library Director - Bristol Public Library. Summary: Plans, organizes, and directs a comprehensive program of community library, education, and related cultural services; oversees the care and maintenance of the City Library buildings, including a branch library, equipment, and facilities; formulates library policies and programs for review and advice by the Library Board. Administers library services through subordinates in the functional areas of reference, circulation, technical services, programming, children’s and facilities management. Directs operation of the Branch Library through professional staff. Develops collections. Analyzes procedures and methods of delivery of library services. Develops system improvements. Performs near term and long range planning. Prepares and presents annual budget to the Board of Finance and administers adopted budget. Supervises the employment and performance evaluation of staff members. Administers personnel regulations and collective bargaining agreements. Prepares grant requests, and narrative and statistical reports. Works to enhance other revenue sources. Furnishes research information. Provides training and development programs for Library and other City employees. Participates in professional library associations, and other professional organizations. Attends night meetings as required. Qualifications: Requires Master's Degree in Library Science and six years of progressively responsible experience in library administration, including three years in the supervision of a library department. Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of public library functions including automated library operations; thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of public administration as applied to a public library; thorough ability to administer the activities of a public library and to supervise the work of others; commitment to excellence in public service; thorough ability in oral and written communication; ability to work independently; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with superiors, subordinates, associates, officials of other agencies and the general public.
