Library Director - Hotchkiss School, Lakeville

Director - Edsel Ford Memorial Library, The Hotchkiss School. The Hotchkiss School, a competitive college preparatory boarding school for students in grades 9-12, was founded in 1891. The School enjoys a lovely setting, being located on 800 acres in Lakeville, Connecticut, on the shores of Lake Wononscopomuc. The Hotchkiss School hosts a talented, diverse student community (39% of whom are students of color) drawn from 38 states and 33 countries. The School is seeking a dynamic, innovative person who is both knowledgeable and deeply thoughtful about the kinship between education and the modern library. The Director will articulate a clear strategic vision for the library, and in translating this vision into concrete objectives, assume a leadership role both at the School and in the national conversation about such matters. The successful applicant will be a gifted manager, advocate, and problem-solver. In addition to overseeing the daily operation of the library, the Director actively identifies and develops the educational program’s resource needs and guides teachers and their students in how best to take advantage of these resources. The director is also responsible for directing the library’s mission in keeping with the enthusiasm and seriousness with which Hotchkiss defines itself as a national school on a global stage. Primary Responsibilities: Informed by the School’s broader information technology goals, develop strategic thinking and initiatives related to scholarly technology, communication, and services. Oversee and guide the development of the library’s staff (5 professionals; 6FTE support staff) in a way that sustains productive collaboration. Manage financial operations (Annual operating budget of $125,500 (exclusive of salaries); annual interest income from endowed funds of $137,700.) Qualifications: An MLS from an ALA-accredited institution, demonstrated leadership in academic library services, and substantive experience in library program management are required. The successful candidate will be a patient and focused visionary, able to collaborate with varied constituencies, and bring distinctive personal and professional energy to a community that holds high standards for citizenship and hard work.
