Library Director - Harrison (NY) Public Library

Library Director - The Harrison Public Library, Harrison, New York (HPL), seeks a strong, enthusiastic leader to become Library Director. HPL comprises both a main library and a branch, and is part of the Westchester Library System. The Director reports to a nine-member Board of Trustees. Located 27 miles from New York City, HPL is a municipal library serving a suburban community of over 24,000, with a collection of over 150,000 items, an annual circulation of over 300,000 items, a staff of 20 full-time employees, and an annual budget of over $2 million. QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates must have an MLS from an ALA-accredited program and a minimum of six years of progressively responsible library experience, at least two in an administrative capacity. Candidates should be fully familiar with emerging technologies and current trends in public library service, and have experience in grant writing, strategic planning, building projects, and fundraising. The successful candidate will be a hands-on administrator of operations and a skilled manager of staff, budget, programs, collections, and facilities. Candidates should have public relations talent, including the ability to forge strong community partnerships, as well as an entrepreneurial spirit, a sense of humor, a positive customer service orientation, and excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with board, staff in a union setting, and town officials. Experience in SIRSI/DYNIX is desirable. COMPENSATION: The starting salary is competitive ($90,000 - $100,000), commensurate with experience, and the benefits package is generous.
