University Librarian - Sacred Heart University, in Fairfield, Connecticut, is the second-largest Catholic university in New England. The Princeton Review includes SHU in its "Best 371 Colleges: 2010" and U.S. News & World Report's "America's Best Colleges 2009" ranks SHU in the top tier of Master's Universities in the North. Job Description: As the chief administrative officer of the University Library, the University Librarian leads planning fo the library's future, oversees all operations and services of the library, supports the University curriculum, and provides for the research and information literacy needs of the students, staff and faculty. Scope & Magnitude: Leads the University's efforts to plan for and implement a full range of library services. Provides all planning for and administration of library services. Prepares and monitors the budget for the library. Oversees a staff of professional librarians, library assistants and student aides who provide vital library services, such as reference services, including library research instruction, ordering, cataloging and processing of all library materials, stack maintenance and circulation of library materials. Guides the development of the library collection through the establishment and administration of library materials selection policies and procedures for all formats including print and electronic resources. Represents the library to the University, the public, as well as the local, state and national library communities. Participates in activities related to institutional advancement. Requirements: Master's degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited school required with a second graduate degree in a specialty field preferred. Five (5) years professional library administration experience, in addition to five (5) years other professional library experience required. Experience with electronic library resources for teaching and learning, including on-line materials also required. University library experience preferred. Working knowledge of one or more world languages preferred. Understanding and ability to articulate the values and mission of Sacred Heart University.
