Director of Library Services - Northwestern Connecticut Community College

Director of Library Services - (CCP-20, 12-month, tenure track position) Northwestern Connecticut Community College. Anticipated Start Date: August 1, 2008, Minimum Qualifications: Masters degree in Library Science from an American Library Association accredited institution together with three years of related experience including one year of experience in supervising others; or a combination of education, training and experience, which would lead to the competencies required for successful performance of the position's essential duties; with demonstrated ability to perform and supervise a full range of professional library services in a higher education environment. Exceptions to the degree requirements may be made for compelling reasons. RESPONSIBILITIES: Under the direction of the Dean of Academic & Student Affairs, the Director of Library Services interacts extensively with students, faculty and members of the public as well as with administrators and peers of the Community College system and with local, regional, and statewide professional networks and consortia. The Director of Library Services is accountable for assuring effective and cost efficient learning resource services to the academic, student and public groups served by the College to advance the College's learning mission through effective performance in these essential functional areas: Effective delivery of library services, including circulation, interlibrary loan, reference, information literacy instruction, media services, library integrated systems, library website and distance learning support; Development and organization of the library's resources, including collection development, cataloging, classification and organization to facilitate access and preserve security; Evaluation, training, development and direction of library staff; Budget, fiscal and facilities management including the development of a budget and monitoring of expenses. Development of sound long term strategies for optimizing the return on library resources; Library assessment and evaluation. The Director of Library Services is also required to participate in commencement and convocation activities as well as special college meetings. The work schedule may include evenings and/or weekends. MINIMUM SALARY: $66,231.00 approximate annual, plus full benefits package.
