Librarian IV, Head of Technical Services Dept. - Hamden Public Library

Librarian IV, Head of Technical Services Department - Performs professional library duties in administering the Library's Technical Services Department in the functional areas of systems administration for the integrated library system (Dynix/Horizon), cataloging, acquisitions, and mending/bindery. Works closely with the Town of Hamden's IT Department, which now directly supports the library's computer operations, network, and website. Oversees and performs cataloging, classification, and authority control work, and strives to maintain integrity of Integrated Library System. Develops short-term and long-range plans and objectives for the division, and develops and manages approved unit budget. Provides direct service to library patrons on regular rotations at reference desk. Participates in developing and maintaining the library's superb collection, and takes responsibility for ordering and maintaining at least one subject area. Supervision Received: Works under the general direction of the Library Director who assigns functional areas and specific tasks as necessary; work is carried out with considerable independence and professional judgment. Supervision Exercised: Provides general supervision to Librarian Is, IIs, and IIIs, Library Technical Assistants, Clerks, Pages, and volunteers. May be designated Librarian-in-Charge. Minimum Qualifications Required: A Master's Degree in Library Science from an accredited college or university and a minimum of 3 years experience in a technical services environment in a library setting. One year of supervisory experience in a technical services environment in a public library is desired but not required. Salary and Benefits: The Librarian IV-Head of Technical Services position is within the Library Union (AFSCME Co. 4, Local 1303-115), and the entry level salary is $48,330.
