Part Time Library Cataloger - Acton Public Library,
Old Saybrook, is seeking qualified candidates for the position of
part-time (25 hours/week) Cataloging Librarian. Under the direction of
the Library Director, the Cataloging Librarian performs original and
copy cataloging of all library materials in various formats, using
nationally accepted cataloging formats and standards. The Librarian
hired for this position will be responsible for cataloging all materials
added to the Acton Public Library collection. The position will also
include hours on the reference desk, providing public assistance with
computer use issues, use of electronic devices to access library
materials, and basic reference needs. The cataloger may be assigned
special projects, including collection development. Skills required:
Knowledge and understanding of cataloging principles including AACR2,
Dewey Decimal Classification, MARC formats. Maintaining an awareness of
developments in general cataloging issues and standards, metadata
standards, and librarianship in working with print, serials, digital,
e-materials and evolving formats. Excellent communication skills
(reading, writing, speaking). Flexibility and ability to work in a
fast-paced, rapidly changing work environment. Working independently, as
well as collaboratively, within the library. Representing the library
at consortium meetings. Utilizing excellent analytical, time management
and problem-solving skills. This position requires an ALA-accredited
MLS, as well as cataloging experience. This is a 25 hour/week union
position, with no health insurance benefits. It does include paid
