Reference Librarian and Assistant Genealogist - The Connecticut Historical Society. Reports to: Director of Collections Access. Department: Collections Access. General Description: The Reference Librarian and Assistant Genealogist covers a regular weekly schedule on the Research Center's reference desk, responds to email and phone reference queries, works with the Senior Genealogist, and participates in collections maintenance activities as assigned by the Senior Genealogist or special projects as assigned by the Director of Collections Access. Duties and Responsibilities: Assists with general reference services, including assigned shifts at the reference desk. Assists with answering of remote reference and genealogical queries. Assists researchers in accessing graphics and museum collections. Responsible for maintaining the Research Center's databases, vertical files and serials collection. Works with the Senior Genealogist. Undertakes special projects as directed by the Senior Genealogist or Director of Collections Access. Publicizes library holdings through library tours, bibliographic instruction, and presentations to outside groups. Assists with the training and orientation of new Research Center staff. Represents the Research Center at selected meetings and conferences. Performs other duties as required. May include weekend or evening duty depending on the Society's changing needs. Qualifications: Master's degree in library/information science or history, or other degree(s) and experience supporting historical reference and research tasks. Strong familiarity with genealogical resources and research techniques, and knowledge of U.S. and/or Connecticut history preferred. Classification: Exempt. Salary: $38,000 with generous benefits.
