Science Librarian - Wesleyan University Library in Middletown, Connecticut is seeking an innovative Science Librarian to support faculty and students in their use and creation of knowledge in the natural sciences and mathematics. The Science Library provides access to the journals and databases essential to the success of both graduate and undergraduate study. It supports a wide variety of undergraduate and graduate programs, including many interdisciplinary programs. The Science Library is a 50,000 square-foot facility located in the Exley Science Center, near science classrooms, labs and faculty offices. Reporting to the University Librarian, the Science Librarian has both management and programmatic responsibilities for the Science Library that include: Manage the Science Library, including developing and maintaining policies and procedures, compiling data and reports, monitoring the budget, and supervising 2.0 FTE staff; Serve as liaison to Division III (natural sciences and mathematics) faculty; Provide information literacy services to faculty and students; Provide reference service to users of the Science Library and the Wesleyan community in general; Select library resources in mathematics, technology and the sciences; Manage science collections and information resources; Participate in the planning and implementation of renovation and facilities projects in the Science Library; Collaborate closely with Information Technology Services in such areas as informatics and the institutional repository; Serve on Library and University committees; Contribute to the profession by participating in regional and national organizations. Minimum qualifications: an MLS degree from an accredited library school and two years' experience, which could be internships, graduate assistantships, or other means, in providing reference service in the natural or physical sciences; strong service orientation; commitment to working in a diverse community; demonstrated ability to work in a team-based and collegial environment. Preferred qualifications: a subject degree in one of the natural or physical sciences or mathematics; knowledge of scientific publishing practices and current trends in scholarly communication; experience providing instruction in the use of scientific and general library databases; collection management experience.
