Head of Youth Services

Fairfield Public Library.   Fairfield Public Library, Fairfield Connecticut, is seeking a Head of Youth Services who brings a vision for youth services, demonstrates leadership, creativity and innovation.  The successful candidate will continue to implement and expand upon the outstanding programs and classes already developed for children, tweens and adults and continue to anticipate community needs. The successful candidate will apply experience and enthusiasm for children’s services and seize the opportunity to realize their ideas, dreams and visions for young patrons and their caretakers.  You will be knowledgeable about current youth and family issues and understand technology trends. You will monitor the youth services budget. You will attend community meetings and collaborate with public schools, other educational institutions and city agencies.  This position is a member of the Library’s leadership team and you will take an active role in the implementation of our Strategic Plan while creating a positive atmosphere of teamwork.  As a creative and optimistic problem solver you will enhance the children’s space to be uplifting and inspirational for the children who visit.  ALA accredited MLS required.  Must have a minimum 4 years working full -time as a professional children’s librarian with a preferred minimum of 3 years supervising library staff including mentoring and providing ongoing training as needed.  Candidate must have demonstrated knowledge of children’s collections including emerging trends. You must have demonstrated record of effectively managing collection and staffing budgets.  Grant writing experience is a plus.   Fairfield, Connecticut is a beautiful town of 60,000 easily accessible by train to NYC and Boston. Beginning salary: Negotiable Benefit package included.  Please submit a cover letter and resume to Karen Ronald, Town Librarian, kronald@fplct.org by December 16th.
