Library Assistant II (Part Time) – Babcock Library



Babcock Library, Ashford, CT has an immediate opening for position of Library Assistant II (Part time)
19 hours per week, including some required Saturday and evening hours.
Starting at a minimum of $13.70 per hour but commensurate based on experience 
Vacation, sick leave and paid holidays

Duties include the following, with an emphasis on the first 5
Planning, scheduling, publicizing and hosting various entertainment and/or educational programs for the public and leading a book discussion group at least once per month
Regular and consistent website maintenance
Cataloging
Preparing monthly items for local newspapers
Assisting active Friends of the Library group with planning and publicizing events
Circulation desk time
Preparation of statistics for reporting purposes
Being creative and innovative with ideas to increase library usage
Instructing patrons in basic computer skills when needed
Using social media to promote the library and its events
Assuming essential duties of other staff members in the event of their absence
Reference work with patrons in person and by telephone
Other duties as assigned

Requirements: 
High School diploma or equivalent;
2 years recent library work experience  
Enthusiasm for planning and hosting programs for the public
Understanding of principles of library cataloging and familiarity with DDC
Experience with web page management
Great computer/technology skills
Experience using automated library system for cataloging and circulation
Working knowledge of desktop applications like MS Word and Publisher
Warm and friendly attitude with co-workers and patrons
Ability to work as a team member and be flexible as circumstances may occasionally require

Preferred Skills:
Experience with ICONN reQuest  & Athena
