Floater/Children's Assistant - Bristol Public Library. SUMMARY: Assists high volume of children, students and adults in the use of library services and facilities. Performs varied library and clerical duties in the Children’s Department and generally assists and/or substitutes throughout the main library and the branch library where needed. Plans, prepares, assists, and conducts story hours, class visits, and a variety of programming events for children 0-12 years of age. Performs outreach services. Prepares and plans bulletin boards and book displays. Assists with use of computer programs and online public access catalog. Occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. GENERAL: Children's Department circulation and program attendance are significantly higher than the statewide average. The department provides an exceptional variety of weekly programs throughout the year as well as outreach to many community schools and agencies. TYPE/SCHEDULE: Full-time position, working 37 1/2 hours per week. September through June, work Monday through Thursday, and alternate Fridays and Saturdays; for the months of July and August, work Monday through Friday. QUALIFICATIONS: Master’s Degree in Library Science with 1 year experience in children’s library services and 1 year of reference experience, OR Bachelor’s Degree with 2 years experience in children’s library services and 2 years of reference experience. Requires strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills, intermediate level computer skills in Microsoft Word, Internet and graphic design software, basic level computer skills in database and spreadsheet software, and general knowledge of library automated systems, electronic and digital resources. Requires knowledge of juvenile reading interests and the ability to relate to children and adults. Artistic and creative talents desired. Salary: $18.73/hourly. Generous benefits.
