Part-Time Children’s Librarian Assistant - Darien Library

Part-Time Children’s Librarian Assistant - The innovative Darien Library (CT) - one of the busiest and most highly-ranked public libraries of its size in the country - seeks a creative, energetic, and dedicated individual to join an incredibly active Children’s Department as a part-time Children’s Librarian Assistant. The successful candidate will have a willingness to learn and a passion for public service. Responsibilities include providing early childhood storytime programs, assisting with reference and reader’s advisory questions, participating in content creation for the Library’s website and social media outlets, and helping with departmental tasks and projects. Qualifications: College degree. Additional education and/or experience in the field of early childhood education strongly preferred. Superior interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate clearly and with sensitivity when responding to patrons’ information needs. Proficiency using basic office computer applications, such as Microsoft Office and Google Docs, and a working knowledge of information and early literacy principles. Familiarity with downloadable technology and a variety of devices. Initiative, flexibility, ability to work in a collaborative team-based environment, and the ability to be self-motivated and work independently. Schedule: Ten hours per week: Monday, 9 AM to 2 PM; Tuesday, 9 PM to 2 PM; one weekend per month (an additional eight hours.) Additional hours may be available on an as-needed basis as a weekday and evening substitute.
