Head Curator/Librarian of Special Collections & Archives - REVISED. Trinity College, Hartford Connecticut, a nationally recognized, highly-selective private liberal arts college, invites applications and nominations for the position of Head Curator/Librarian of Special Collections and Archives, Watkinson Library. With nearly 200,000 volumes, the Watkinson Library comprises the Trinity College Library special collections department which is exceptional among small college libraries for its breadth and depth. Its holdings include late medieval manuscripts and early printed books, extensive collections in Americana, European history and literary manuscripts, ornithology, modern fine printing and artists’ books, and comprehensive and growing college archives. Renovated in 2007, the new Watkinson Library facility reflects the commitment of the College and its donors to our extraordinary collections. The Watkinson Library is housed in the College’s Raether Library and Information Technology Center. Responsibilities: The Head Curator/Librarian reports directly to the College Librarian and is responsible for providing leadership, planning, and management of the Library’s special collections, focusing on the promotion, preservation, and development of the Watkinson Library and Trinity College Archives. The Head Curator/Librarian supervises two professional librarians; engages in active outreach and instruction to reinforce the importance of primary resource material for teaching and study; provides research and teaching access to the collections; and assists in the planning and implementation of new technologies. Responsibilities also include innovative programming, exhibits, and presentations; engagement in donor activities; representing the Trinity Library in appropriate local regional and national venues; and serving as a member of the College Librarian’s Administrative Council. Qualifications: Accredited MLS or equivalent and a second Masters or Ph.D. in an area of the humanities or social sciences relating to the collections of the Watkinson Library; a minimum of five years of progressive supervisory experience; proven knowledge of rare books and manuscripts, and demonstrated experience with library special collection operations. The successful candidate will have experience with digital technology in a special collections environment; reading knowledge of at least one European language, preferably French, German or Italian; excellent written and oral communications skills; and the ability to work effectively and collegially with fellow professionals, faculty, students and staff.
