Librarian I, Consumer Health Librarian, Special Projects - University of Connecticut Health Center. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY: Knowledge and understanding of the practice of librarianship in a university, public or academic health sciences library; considerable interpersonal skills; considerable oral and written communication skills; some supervisory skills. EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING: General Experience: A Master's Degree in Library Science from a school accredited by the American Library Association. Some familiarity with on-line databases and bibliographic utilities. Substitutions Allowed: Six (6) years' professional library work, including acquisition, cataloging, circulation, interlibrary loans, and reference. Special Requirements: Extensive computer keyboarding and Internet searching skills and knowledge of general computer software including MS Office Suite. High level of written and verbal communication skills, attention to detail, and excellent organizational skills; ability to work independently. Basic knowledge and understanding of the health care field and medical terminology. Some travel to other libraries and health organizations may be required. Preferred Requirements: Knowledge of and experience working in a health sciences library. Knowledge of Connecticut health resources. Experience using health databases including PubMed, Medline Plus and government resources. EXAMPLES OF DUTIES: Assist with the development and rollout of a comprehensive Connecticut GoLocal health services database that will be linked to consumer health topics in the National Library of Medicine's MedlinePlus database. Assist in collecting, evaluating and assigning metadata to information about local health services using a controlled vocabulary. Enter, edit, and approve data records using a standardized format and data style guidelines in the National Library of Medicine-hosted database. Help recruit, train and supervise volunteers from other libraries in developing the Connecticut GoLocal database. Develop a maintenance schedule and update data records to ensure their accuracy and currency. Assist with other GoLocal project activities including outreach, training, and publicity. Assist with other Healthnet consumer health activities including outreach, reference and training. Assist with other library special projects as assigned. Performs designated tasks to learn and understand the full range of departmental services; develops/implements projects; explains library policies to clients; may prepare correspondence and assist with reports; assists with department long-range planning; attend professional meetings and participates in professional organizations; utilizes on-line databases and/or bibliographic utilities; assigns, supervises and trains staff; performs related duties as required. Schedule: 20 Hours/Week; Schedule to be determined; Flexibility for occasional evening or weekend hours needed. Full Time Equivalent Minimum Salary: $55,347 (50% = $27,673).
