Head of Reference - University of New Haven

Head of Reference - University of New Haven Library. Under the direction of the University Librarian and in close cooperation with the Library's administrative group, the Head of Reference plans and coordinates the activities of this essential unit of the Library. We seek a responsible, flexible and reliable librarian with a strong desire to teach our students how to effectively use the Library and its resources. Major Duties and Responsibilities: Responsible for the administration and coordination of the Reference Services Department, including supervision of librarians, clerks and student employees. Ensures that a full range of print and web-based library and information support materials, guides, and tutorials are available to UNH faculty and students. Administers the library instruction program, including the assessment component. Conducts classes on using library and information resources effectively. Researches the latest advancements and best practices in information literacy and develops the Library's program to meet accreditation requirements and the University's strategic vision. Provides reference service in person, through e-mail requests, and by phone. Supervises the Interlibrary Loan Department. Qualifications: MLS degree from an ALA-accredited school required. Two years of Reference desk experience required. Strong interpersonal skills with a firm commitment to providing exceptional service to our faculty and students is essential. Demonstrated ability to conduct an effective library instruction session. Excellent writing and speaking skills essential. Online database searching skills and computer literacy are necessary. Supervisory experience required. Demonstrated ability to work collegially and professionally with all levels of staff. Strong team building skills with a flexible, open approach.
