Library Director - Scarsdale (NY) Public Library
Library Director - The Trustees of the Scarsdale Public Library, Scarsdale, NY, are looking for a strong and visionary leader to become the new Library Director. The successful candidate needs to be a hands-on administrator of operations at our beautiful public library, part of the Westchester Library System. SPL serves a suburban community of over 17,000 with a circulation of over 438,000 items, a staff of 32.5 FTE and an annual budget of over $3,000,000. It is a focal destination for programming as well as traditional services. The Director reports to a seven (7) member appointed Board of Trustees and must be organized, articulate, and possess strong management, budgetary and interpersonal skills. QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates should hold a MLS from an ALA accredited college or university as well as have at least six (6) years of professional library experience, at least two (2) in an administrative capacity. Candidates should be familiar with evolving technologies, and have experience with library policy writing, building projects and fundraising. The successful candidate should possess strong leadership skills, the ability to forge strong community partnerships, public relations skills, an entrepreneurial spirit, a sense of humor, a positive attitude, enthusiasm, confidence, and a genuine interest in people. An appreciation of the role of libraries in a democratic society is imperative. COMPENSATION: The salary is highly competitive ($109,000 to $125,000), commensurate with experience, plus a generous benefits package. This is a Civil Service appointment and candidate must be able to obtain placement on the Westchester County Civil Service list for Director III.
