Head of Children's Services - Chappaqua (NY) Library

Head of Children's Services - Librarian III. Chappaqua (NY) Library. Salary Range: $52,489-$73,107. The Chappaqua Library is seeking a flexible, creative and energetic individual to lead the Children's Department. The successful candidate will be customer-focused, familiar with children's literature, programming, service trends and emerging technologies. Key responsibilities of the position include: Mentoring, training and supervising professional and para-professional staff; Coordinating and providing quality children's and readers' advisory services; Regularly evaluating services and implementing changes; Participating in the updating and development of policies; Developing the collection, including development, evaluation, selection and de-selection; Developing and conducting programs that appeal to a wide variety of patrons; Serving as a liaison for library services with school groups; Fostering teamwork within the assigned department as well as with other managers and administrators. Position requirements include: Excellent customer service skills; Comprehensive knowledge of children's literature; Ability to communicate effectively with individuals and groups of varying ages; Ability to exercise leadership and motivate others; Ability to plan, coordinate and supervise the work of library staff. Minimum training and experience: Master's degree in Librarianship from an ALA-accredited library school (or recognized by the NY State Education Department as following acceptable education practices) and four years of professional library experience subsequent to receiving the MLS. Preferred experience: At least 2 years supervisory experience. This is a competitive position; Civil Service test is required.
