Library Director - Edith Wheeler Memorial Library, Monroe
Library Director - The Town of Monroe is seeking a Library Director with the personality, professional skills, and commitment to maintain and improve the current high level of customer service, community outreach, programs, and services, and to ensure the future of the library as a vibrant community center. The Edith Wheeler Memorial Library serves a Fairfield County community of 19,650 residents from a beautiful 32,000 square foot facility opened in March 2007. The Library Director reports to the First Selectman and is responsible for the general management of the library. Supervises a service-oriented staff of 7 full-time and 18 part-time employees, recommends and administers the library budget (approximately $700,000), recommends policy to a supportive seven-member Board of Trustees, oversees the selection of materials and the maintenance of the collection, and works with Bibliomation and town technology staff to ensure that the library offers appropriate automation and information technology systems and services. The Director supervises program development for adults, teens, and children, including book discussions, movie series, lectures, storytimes, reading clubs, author and performer visits, etc. Also works with senior staff to publicize the library's collections, services, and programs. For FY 2007, circulation totaled 172,550 and the collection numbered 87,088 items. The library has over 13,000 registered patrons and is a sought-after community meeting center for many civic organizations. The successful candidate will hold an MLS degree from an ALA-accredited institution, with at least 7 years' increasingly responsible professional experience, including 5 years' supervisory experience. The ability to work independently, supervise and motivate the staff, and demonstrate excellent interpersonal and leadership skills and a passion for library service are essential for this job.
