Library Director - Mount Vernon (NY) Public Library

Library Director - Mount Vernon (NY) Public Library. The Trustees of the Mount Vernon Public Library (MVPL) are seeking a director who in partnership with the Board will provide nimble yet decisive leadership, vision and strategic direction for a library organization which serves an urban community of nearly 75,000. MVPL also serves as the Central Library for the Westchester Library System. The director is responsible for the management of the day-to-day administration, operations, programming and services ensuring that MVPL is fiscally and administratively sound and that the various programs are well managed and cost effective. The ideal candidate will work to maintain and extensively broaden MVPL's relationship with the Mount Vernon community as well as the larger library community in Westchester. Candidates must have comprehensive knowledge of contemporary library techniques and technological applications including automation, web-presence and telecommunications. In addition, the candidates should have a good understanding of civil service procedures and governmental budgeting, have the ability to manage staff in a union environment, publicize and promote library programs, supervise buildings and grounds, and carry out the policies of the Board of Trustees. Candidates should have a Master's Degree in Librarianship from a library school that is accredited by the American Library Association or recognized by the New York State Education Department as following acceptable education practices; and six (6) years of satisfactory professional library experience, two (2) or more years of which must have been in an administrative capacity. Eligibility for a NYS public librarians' professional certificate at the time of application, with possession of certificate at time of appointment. Salary: $115,000-$125,000.
